Carlos, it is not easy for movie lovers like you and me who do not live in places like . New York or Madrid. thank goodness for DVDs! I had been hearing about Fejos and Lonesome for many years and finally got to see it on the new Criterion set. Sonnenstrahl sounds good. I would be glad to see any version of it. The only Machaty I have seen is Ecstasy, but I would like to see more. An interesting career. Stay well. Bob
Thanks for the follow, Carlos. Your English is fine, and I apologize for not knowing enough Spanish for a conversation. Fortunately, the cinema is an international language which brings us together. You have seen the very best work of Mr. Borzage. I would recommend, if you haven't seen them yet, A Farewell to Arms, Man's Castle, Little Man What Now?, Three Comrades, The Mortal Storm, and Moonrise. There are many others that I like a lot. Most of the earlier silents that still exist are hard to get. Yes, Lady of the Night is very good, but the best Monta Bells I have seen are the two films he made with his friend John Gilbert, Man Woman and Sin and Downstairs. Where do you live, Carlos? I hope it's warmer than here. I live in New York State, and it has been below freezing for two weeks! Have you seen any new movies that you like? Cheers. Bob
Hello, Segobrigense. I was glad to see a Borzage at the top of your 1930 list, although Liliom is far from my favorite among his films. We do, however, see eye to eye on those last four silents. One masterpiece after another. Amazing. And, need I say that I like your avatar? And glad to see that I am not the only person who likes Monta Bell. Which of his films have you seen? Stay well. Bob
