Amazing movie. Unbelievable performances from the mother and Precious. Amazingly written, the story was intelligently and carefully handled and the directing was fantastic. The only problem with this movie is that it's about 10 minutes too long. After the scene where Precious breaks down in the classroom there were 2 scenes which were completely unnecessary and even needlessly confusing - the scene where Precious hands the red ribbon to the little girl in the waiting room, and the scene with the little white kid in the classroom. (By the way... who WAS that kid?!?! All of a sudden appeared out of nowhere!) Both scenes should have been ommitted. Otherwise... the best movie I've seen in a year. 4.5 out of 5 for sure!!!
I saw this movie at the Toronto International Film Festival a couple of weeks ago and surprisingly it was my favourite film out of the 7 that I managed to see. It is well written and beautifully acted, an absolute gem. Definitely the Director's best work to date!
