Melancholia

the immaculate golf course as a stage for the cosmic drama works, but recalls Marienbad a bit too much. the surreal sequences are brilliant, the cinematography is elegant (as is Gainsbourg), but everything else fails - vapid, unprovocative and sensationalist. Wagner is the nail in the coffin.
