I must admit I didn't know that, but still, although imperialism seems to be a major theme in the saga, I've never thought there are any clear references to Vietnam but rather to a whole history of mighty empires expanding over smaller and weaker nations. If there's anything that could resemble the Vietnam War, I'd say it's the battle with the Eowks, but it seems kind of disrespectful portraying the VC as cute little bears, lol. So while Vietnam might have been an inspiration, I can't see any direct references to it, and even if there were any that I have missed, I still think Star Wars does a better effort in creating a fantasy universe than Avatar, which, I think, doesn't even try to do so.
