Matt L: Filmography

In most places the film translates the word as TRUBNAYA rather than TRUBNAIA. Even the Telluride program [which is quoted here] used TRUBNAYA. IMDB calls it 'Dom na Trubnoy'. Ultimately it might not matter. It's a terrific film either way.

Poetry

It's a devastating film even though the terrible things happen off screen. But it is the whole nature of memory and trying to craft poetry out of tragedy that is at the heart of the film. There are many narrative threads and many are left sort of dangling, which is perfect as far as I am concerned. That's life. As I write this it is the best film I have seen in 2010.

L'enfant

Curious why this is titled THE CHILD? Even in America it was titled "L'Enfant". Why translate it?

L'enfant

The footage that Clouzot shot is really phenomenal. Bromberg does a really good job of mixing in remarkable colorful, experimental footage with interviews and stills adding much to the relatively ubknown 'lost' film; Inferno. Had this film been completed by Clouzot it may well have been a milestone in film style.
