I have been looking up examples of sound continuity and sound montage for La Jetee, but I’m not sure any of the mare accurate. Can anyone give me an example?
Presentation: to present an image, or to realistically or reliably show a visual truth of a subject matter, and to color that truth with shades of meaning.
Representation: To represent an image in order to obtain an emotional, or intellectual reponse
-Hope this helps find an answer, and yes it is homework :)
Ok, I want to make sure I’m getting this right. Is the Sound continuity the fact that the music and voiceover are continuously the same in volume and other aspects throughout the whole scene? Is the sound montage the fact that the music and voiceover are separate from the events happening in the pictures? Forgive me If I got that completely wrong.
Nitrate, I have many more questions than 4 on my homework, these were just the only ones I looked everywhere for and couldn’t figure out. I figured I would ask for help from someone that does know, rather than agonize over it.
This is not a joke, I was just as confused as you. I actually found an answer to this question if you’re interested:
When hollywood got a better grasp on filming and recording, they developed a
routine or method to follow to make a film. so the idea is that hollywood would make movies using the ‘assembly line’ method. (Which was used by Henry Ford). casablanca was also tied into this. around the time casablanca was
made, hollywood was churning out so many movies, they didnt much care
who directed it, they just got some one who would follow the technical
aspect (assembly line method) to the letter. thats why casablanca is
supposed to be the example of a technically sound movie in just about
everyway.
So in short, Henry Ford contributed the idea of the assembly line method, which, at that time, Hollywood ended up taking on.
(I don’t know why this reply is coming out so broken up, I’m not typing it this way… oh well)
I didn’t think I had to specify why I was asking. I never denied that it was homework, which it is. I asked my professor, but the best he did was give me page numbers in the book. I read everything he told me to and I either didn’t understand the concepts completely or couldn’t find the answer, (and believe me I looked). I answered most of the questions, these are just the few I couldn’t figure out, and not for a lack of trying. I didn’t think there was anything wrong with asking for help someplace else. If you don’t want to answer my question and think it’s a waste of time, then don’t answer it. I would have thought, a professor of all people would be more than happy to answer a student’s film question, or at least put me on the right track so that I could figure it out for myself. I’m not trying to cheat or trick you into doing my work for me, I’m just thoroughly confused.
I do appreciate anyone who did help answer to the best of their ability, it helped tremendously.
Thanks Robert, I’m glad to know not everyone here has a problem with me …. I was starting to feel unwelcome(total understatement)
and yes, I did watch the films. Also, Lacey isn’t my real name, and right about now I’m really glad that I gave a fake one… phew
Quentin, the film is actually quite interesting. If you’ve seen 12 monkeys, that was a remake of it.
Yep, another answer for me! Now I’ll know the right answers, what is wrong with me asking for help?! Wow, what a terrible student I am trying to figure out answers to questions I don’t know, by asking people who do know! That doesn’t make any sense!

I am just not sure what would be a good course screen example of disjunctive editing for this film. Can anyone help me out?
