1. Vertigo – I still love it
2. The Birds – could watch it a million times
3. Family Plot – it sucked, but it was Hitch, so it was still great
4. Rear Window – fun watch
5. Shadow of a Doubt – I guess I was fifteen by the time I saw this, so not quite a child, but still great.
I like most of his other work but I haven’t been able to track down Obsession :( and I haven’t brought myself to watch Mission to Mars :) I want to see Hi, Mom and I think I have seen all the other ones.
I like this idea and have re-read the rules. I was going to go for a concept, but with filming things as they are, it might to difficult to get my point across without a little manipulation and without going to skid row. I actually started to script something, but since that is a no-no I might have to do something different. Hmm, in the meantime I’ll have to figure out what to film. I like the stipulations, and it will be a different way of working.
I think we can live without it. However, if there was some idiot who posted nonsense, it would be great to have the thumbs down thing. But mostly it is unnecessary, I think.
The Killing is a great movie that doesn’t get enough appreciation, fame-wise. However, I would agree that Barry Lyndon is severely under-appreciated as well. I put off seeing it, because someone (on IMDB?) described it as long and boring.
Watching Judy Garland’s a star is born. There’s a reason I put it off. Janet Gaynor’s version (the original) directed by William Wellman is so perfect and one of my favorite films. This George Cukor remake is killing me. :( :(
So it seems we have about 9 filmmakers, and we need 23 cuts. I filmed some stuff on Wed. night in Hollywood, so I can work on editing it tonight. Then do you want me to post what I use from downtown this wkend for my second cut? Or maybe we’ll see… I’m just eager to move on to the next stage. That’s my personality :) :) :)
l’avventura is a great one by antonioni. It was the third or really the fourth film I saw by film, but it was my FIRST. You know what I’m saying?
Truffaut is great. Most people like 400 Blows, but it gets even better with Antoine et Colette and the films afterwards. I would recommend Confidentially Yours and also Jules and Jim. If you don’t like J&J, I would watch it years later. ;)
My review: http://cinemabecomesher.blogspot.com/2008/11/synecdoche-new-york-charlie-kaufman.html
I’ve heard Charlie Kaufman movies never make money. But Synecdoche NY hasn’t really had a chance to play in many theaters. I’ve had the great opportunity to see it twice. Once it comes out on DVD, it will probably find its true audience. Twenty million isn’t a lot these days. I’d like to think it will break even!!

sounds good. I usually make it downtown once or twice a week. Maybe we can compromise on Echo Park.
