Thanks for the follow. I'd long been meaning to ask you what you thought about The Wicker Tree, since I think you and me are the only ones on this site who seemed to have watched it...
Sorry for ridiculously late response, I actually wrote a review of it back in the day. It's a bit hyperbolic in retrospect, but I can't argue with what I think its still reflective of my take on the film: http://www.soundonsight.org/the-wicker-tree-successfully-reimagines-hardys-masterpiece/
Thanks, Justine, for fanning Louise Brooks. You might also want to take a look at Lost Women of Hollywood which deals with the female experience off the screen. I admire your lists, and would like to suggest a few films that you might want to add to your Female Canon: Chabrol's Story of Women and Betty, Truffaut's La Peau douce and especially L'Amour en fuite (his most mature portraits of women), and one I just recently stumbled on by a happy accident, Innocence by Lucile Hadzihalilovic. Set in a girls' school, I thought it was going to be one of those artfully moody horror movies such as Spain has been coming up with lately, but it turned out to be about how we educate and socialize our girls, of great concern to me as the father of two daughters. If you get to see any of these, let me know what you think. Bob
