Stand Up Guys

Considering the deader than dead 'gangster buddy' genre, this was a pleasant surprise. The direction keeps things moving at a steady, lighthearted pace and Pacino and Walken haven't been this much fun to watch in ages.

I first liked it with reservations, but now I simply think it's a masterpiece. Sure, it has unwieldy flaws, but its audacity elevates so much of its content. I don't think I've seen a film that elevates its own emotional stakes through its visuals as much as this one. The race scenes aren't just eye-candy, but legitimately moving and thrilling sequences backed by real emotion.

Also good to see support for Bryan Singer's Superman Returns (the only worthwhile Singer film imo).

Another unfairly neglected film. Beautifully shot and paced. Best thing Singer's ever done imo as well. Brandon Routh should have been a big star by now, loved him in this role.
