I was just catching up on your filmography and reviews - it's admirable that you're keeping up such a consistent record of your thoughts and experiences of the film! I enjoyed reading your reviews, they are thoughtful and thorough. :) I myself tend to just watch though a dozen films and read up on imdb on the inspiring ones; I would love to start up a review section here as well, but the reviews on the blog take up so much time... :/
Concerning Doubt....I really liked the film. I think it's OK if you felt like crying one minute and laughing the next.....I think some of the best films take our emotions on little bit of a roller coaster....because, after all, that's how life is in reality. Ultimately, the film is heartbreaking for all of the main characters though.....everyone loses in the end..priest, nun and little boy.
Your review of On Golden Pond is right on the money....you capture the strengths and weaknesses perfectly....I agree that without the all star power of the film it would be forgotten today....and Fonda and Hepburn have both given stronger performances in other films....I also think that part of the appeal comes from the fact that Henry had a troubled relationship with his daughter Jane in real life....and they channel some of that in their performances here.....again...nice review.
