Hi Mike, I liked 'J. Edgar' quite a bit. I haven't really paid too much attention to how it has been received, but you're probably right. I'd say that the majority of films Eastwood has directed remain undervalued, so it doesn't come as a surprise to me. Biopics are generally a losing proposition; it's virtually impossible to do justice to someone's life in a two-hour span, especially a public figure. So I was glad to see that Eastwood and Black aim their focus on a few defining moments, with Hoover himself serving as a framing device/(unreliable) narrator. And of course his sexuality, where the personal and the political significantly intersect. While the film still moves pretty fast, unlike most in its genre it thankfully doesn't amount to one long montage sequence, jumping from one event to another and haphazardly evoking a multitude of emotions. Anyway, what did you make of DiCaprio? I think I liked him more here than his work as Howard Hughes. This is a more concentrated performance, less eager to please. // Ciao, Arsaib

You have a great taste too. I agree with your "MY AWARDS 2011" in the majority. There are some who have not seen as "Hugo", but Scorsese is best. Your list of favorite movies is very good too. Good to see "Lost in Translation" there, "The 400 Blows" and others.

Glad to hear it. Scorsese never fails, in my opinion.

As far as I’m concerned, going into Last Days expecting to see a portrait of Kurt Cobain is an immediate mistake. Allegedly, writer/director Gus Van Sant’s initial intentions with the project were…  read review
