Some of the scenes are beautifully shot, there is intensity and some interesting ideas. But it doesn't come together and he forgot about the audience, overall a hard film to sit though.
I thought this was a terrible film.
John Hurt was in conversation at the Keswick Film Festival last weekend, he gave some fascinating insights and came across as generally a really nice man.
The dance scene in the café is great.
I liked this film a lot, but I just wanted to say I really like how the the end credits are put together.
I just watched Fotoamator by Jablonski, a fantastic achievement, haunting in some ways. Now this one is on my list of ones to watch, I'm sure it will be as good.
I wish Thewlis was in more good films than bad.
Charly should be on here.
One of the best British films ever!
This film makes me want to read the book, because I'm sure this story could be so much better than the film allows it to be.
I don't understand why the end section narrated by the central character Jenny was included. It seems at odds with the rest of the film, it felt less charming and quite ugly. It was shame to be left with this after so many strong and memorable scenes, memorable for the right reasons.
I watched this and kept getting a feeling that was close to déjà vu, each time I felt it another film popped into my mind, Solaris, Slient Running, 2001, Outland... What is originality anyway, I suppose most films exists because of what has come before them and have a degree of intertextuality.
Why would somebody make this, this is a terrible film. Absolute rubbish!
This film might seem predictable and as if it is not doing much of anything. At times life seems predictable and as if it is not doing much of anything. However, as with life, what keeps it interesting is people and what is going on inside their heads, the acting facilitates this allowing us to project into the minds of the characters. In my opinion this was the strength in this film.
I watched this when it first come out and again for the second time yesterday, I had almost forgotten some of the quirky elements that kept me intrigued the first time around. This film is a surreal little journey for the mind, although better at the start than the end, but as journey's go there is enough to see along the way to keep you going.
This film displays an emotional landscape captured in close up, it is more real than you might want it to be. Beautiful and cruel, in one way or another it contains reflections of everybody who has ever loved. Liv Ullmans performance is superb.
This film never fails to disappoint me, I love the idea of it, the cast, the story and even the scenes. However, when I watch it I feel like I'm in a dream where something is not quite as it should be and I'm whispering to myself "why is it so bad I'm sure it should be much better than this". Maybe someday I'll wake up and it will be everything I want it to be.
I suppose I'm missing something with this one, as much as I searched and searched, I couldn't find enough depth or humanity in the characters to actually care about them. There are many long scenes in empty fields that reflected my feelings about this film, something meaningful and beautiful could have grown there, but all I found was mud.
