Television in Pialat's clothing. Why are so many tempted to turn cinema into tv?
This is mostly horrible but I would really recommend looking closely at the cinematography. There is something rarely transparent and naturalistic. You cant help but see through the thinly veiled studio illusion and into some absurd Lumiere-esque document. I am a Bob Hope fan but there is a further artistic integrity which definitely feels out of place.
A big pile of garbage with a lovely Bing cherry on top.
I don't think this bio translated well into english. ...or it's just really bad.
When will I ever see a proper print of this film?
MICHAEL Lonsdale is the proper spelling for this very person. I hope it can be corrected and these two movies can be attributed to his oeuvre.
If you're looking to view Nick Peterson's films, they're available here: http://www.sampofilms.com
How can we clean up this Nick Peterson association? Nick Peterson the animator is not the same as Nick Peterson the director.
There is so much going on in this film! I love it! it's more naturalistic than Renoir's Toni or A Day in the Country in many ways, it has the irreverence of Truffaut and Godard's early work, It prefigures the mise en scene of Maurice Pialat, it has the naive poetic realism of the young Jacques Prevert, the sound is unbelievably naturalistic and creative. perhaps the best performance of Jules Berry. So Much!
Jacques Villeret and Jean-François Balmer were cut from the film and are in the special features of the Masters of Cinema Series DVD.
JACQUES VILLERET deserves credit!
Socrates without irony? Get real.
Where is the credit for SABINE HAUDEPIN!!!
Gérard Séty needs credit!!!!!!!
Ray Carney, I'm sorry but it's finally time to get real.
Tops my most anticipated list of 2010.
Lame quote. He must have said something cooler than that.
Larry Clark is the genius here.
The original 4-hour cut of this film has apparently been lost. I wish I hadn't checked wikipedia. "This immense artistic loss reportedly still haunts Beneix today". This film is brilliant and, it seems, misunderstood.
This is missing the script credit for Tennessee Williams.
Brando is at his best after taking a brutal beating.
uhh.... let's fix the date of this film: 1977.
Nicolas Philibert has been added to the list of Auteurs and they've accepted his wonderful quote: "...not surveillance but bienveillance." I've just spent my tax return on the 9 disc "Philibert: Integrale" on amazon.fr.
Keith Desmond really deserves credit for sound. And Tom Waits is not in the movie, they just play his song "Take Care of All My Children" during the credits.
Add David Blue to the cast!
One of the more psychodelic films I've ever seen.
I want to see the Imposters up here!!!
Best child actor ever?
Best soundtrack ever. The screenplay is fairly jacked.
I'm the only Charles Grodin Fan!!!!!??
