Almost everyone I know dislikes Nic Cage, I started with disliking him too. But then I started to realize that he is a pretty fine actor, so I started to like him. I like his performances in “Rumblefish”, “Wild at Heart” and “Adaptation”, and “Matchstick Men” to some degree.
“I couldn’t really handle it, to be honest”. Same here. I expected something smart and funny, as well something deep but not in that way. Here in Germany the film is now on DVD but it never opened in cinemas which is such a shame, because I have the strong feeling that this is very well the best movie of the decade. I only cannot tell yet, because I have to watch it again very soon. And at the same time I’m scared of watching it again. There are a lot of films trying to handle with the endless meaningless of life, but Kaufman finds images and dialogues for it that you cannot even cry about because they are so true. It doesn’t make you cry, it almost makes you want to die. Still: Waiting for the second time.
I think people are a bit too harsh about Forrest. It’s a well-made and pretty original hollywood movie that I enjoy every time its on TV.
As for the question of th topic, I think nowadays I cannot handle any more people that will tell me that Mulholland Drive is not a work of genius, but only a stupid mind-fuck. I wouldnt even start to discuss.
