I VERY NEARLY walked out on “The INformant”. In fact, several people did. I stayed till the end and despite some dark laughs did not enjoy the film as a whole.
One of my favorite opening sequences is in The Royal Tennenbaums…you get a huge chunk of the history of the family and a very specific peek into the kind of movie you are about to witness..then there’s the title sequence where all the characters are getting “ready” for the movie to start which, if i remember correctly, W.Anderson said he stole from Welles’ “The Magnificent Ambersons”, and “Death Takes a Holiday”
Hey all, I’ve been on mubi for awhile now (started when it was the auteurs) and am just now exploring this garage thing. How do I request/apply to be a filmmaking member? Is it a restricted thing? Invitation only? Any knowledge would be helpful.
thanks dude..i have another short idea with the first outline draft written..and I have a short that involves the woods, but needs some solidifying..all in all, i need to start working on something pronto…getting that “filmmaker depression” lol
Here’s an idea: You should make this into a collaborative project on here and have different people interpret your script. That way you can see all the different ways your story could be told. I think it would be an interesting exercise.
here’s my short film if you’re interested…
http://mubi.com/garage/projects/2/films/1673
long story short: I made a short film awhile ago at a 12-week workshop (you can see it in Mubi Garage, it’s called ILLUMINATION, link on my profile) and I felt like I finally found my calling. I have finally saved up enough money and bought a new macbook (to edit on) and a Nikon dslr (to shoot hd with). My problem is that after the initial high of finishing a short, it’s months later and i need to work on something! The issue is that i don’t know any other filmmakers (well one or two, but they’re busy) who live in nyc or close and I need to surround myself with other creatives to share in the energy. I’m in that “filmmakers depression”.
Has anyone been through this? How did you crack it? Does anyone live in or near nyc and makes films?
The filmmaking workshop was awesome because i got to make a film, but it was awful because my class started with 15 people and by the end, all but 1 had dropped out. terrible!
I’ll check meetup.com.
i live in queens, nyc but can travel anywhere close if it involves filmmaking (i’m currently unemployed, got laid off)
I had an idea a few weeks ago that one short script could be written, and multiple people could make a short based on it and when put together it would be an awesome showcase of different flavors of the same source…
Saw a bootleg of an asian porn where the guy tied up a girl, gave her an enema and she shat on newspaper. then in the 2nd part, 2 asian girls jerked off a dog.
It was quite disturbing, I didn’t have sex until I was 20.
dude, I don’t know…I think it was either japanese or Korean. To this day, i feel uncomfortable if someone is too affectionate with their dog, lol. After that, my experience was mostly scrambled cable porn until I bought my first gay porn.
When I was in my early 20’s, it was John (rebel!)
When I was in my mid-20’s it was Paul (artistic! commercial sensibility! Keep the band afloat!)
Now that I’m 30, it’s George (spiritual!) and Ringo (under-appreciated! His drum fills!)
But ultimately, the band was strong for all the parts together, not just one element.
