ever?!
The most beautiful opening sequence ever in a film! The family dynamics, the workaholic boss, his nephew trying hard to get a tag line and the wedding planner gave the film a breath of black comedy. What a masterpiece Von Trier's best film yet! Can't wait to see Charlotte Gainsbourg in Nymphomaniac.
The kids history/civil rights presentations and their discussion after having watched Mario Savo's speech about the Machine was what struck me the most. You saw it coming that Drey would eventually end up delivering the crack to Dan. Looking forward to more films with Shareeka Epps what a brilliant actress!
This is such a brilliant film. Why is it considered an X-rated film? Because Rocco has an erection while he's crying? Because of a bloody tampon in a glass? Isn't this what life is about!
Valentina, I believe the X-rating is due to the opening scene--fellatio in such graphic detail draws an X-rating every time. I'm as open minded as anyone about such things on film, but you cannot complain, really, that this film gets an X classification. And I must say, I found this film dreadful.
Who has not thought about becoming a whore?!
Saw this beautiful film the night before the Earthquake in Japan, went to sleep with images of the Japanese sea in my mind and woke up to images of a devastated Japan....
I agree the best movie from 2010!
I think Broken Embraces shows how mature Almodóvar has become as a writer/director. Yes it would be nice nice to see Penelope Cruz in a real life changing role but her work in Broken Embraces was still good, I would say better than her role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona. I enjoyed Broken Embraces a lot, I like how he uses the same actors and always finds the perfect roles for them within his films! Bravo Almodóvar!
I thought it was hysterical the Tex-Mex version of Cheap Trick's "I Want You To Want Me" the accordion accompaniment was spot-on! A good portrayal of sibling rivalry and what the perils of success can do to a person specially when you go from being marginal to nouveau riche to marginal all over again. Football is not a sport it is a way of life for many.
What a relief! I thought I was the only one who was annoyed by this bad after school special. I completely disagree Zooey Deschanel is not a mature actress she plays the same "it" girl character in every movie she's been in, there is no depth to her as an actress and as for Joseph Gordon-Levitt I thought his role in Mysterious Skin was brilliant, his role as Tom was such a disappointment.
I enjoyed this film, I wouldn't call it the worst movie I've ever seen, yes it was a tad too frivolous for my taste but I enjoyed professor's Falconer lecture on fear, I also enjoyed how the Cuban missile crisis was somehow part of the story. Visually stunning without a doubt, I wouldn't mind being dressed and living in a Tom Ford movie set. I look forward to your next film Mr. Ford!
Although I am a fan of Ricardo Villalobo's music I was not impressed with the Panorama segment, the crisis help line, the sleeping disorder Charite Clinic, the kids in Hellersdorf and Neukölln plus the taxi driver where so much more insightful than Villalobo's fag dance.
Here kitty kitty.... Genius at its best.
Oskar and Eli rule! The best child acting I've seen since "Io non ho paura" The simplicity of this movie is what makes it all the more grandiose to me. Finally a "vampire" film that manipulated my senses to the core! Bravo Tomas Alfredson. It is so refreshing to see a movie solely relying on telling a story and not on special GFX or pretty faces to get your attention.
The fat years are over, I've always wanted to go to a rich person's house and turn their living room upside down!
This film was claustrophobic in so many ways. The casting of the children in this film was spot on, interesting how they all sorta resemble each other and you keep thinking something is going to happen to one of them. Fien Troch! Hands down I am a fan. So many films have dealt with the loss of a child but not like this one.
What I like most about this film was the song "I Wish I was a Boy" great song composed by Muriel Moreno. I think the title says it all.
One of the best films ever made!
