Harmony Korine claimed this was one of his all time favorite films. didn't see that coming//sarcasm
Herzog's Gummo
Great shoots. Great locations.
Whoa.
Gimme a C, gimme a G, gimme an I. It's hard to expect great writing from Marvel comics, but it was fun to watch in the theater.
Pretty good. Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good.
Looooved it.
Terrible pacing.
"I do not avoid women, Mandrake. But I do deny them my essence."
When you take a look at some of the things a lot of parents do, rebelliousness in young people makes too much sense.
"Most of the principal actors in CITIZEN KANE are new to motion pictures." Not surprising. Orson Welles has a knack for visuals but he leaves a lot to be desired in the acting department, not just his own acting but most of the cast's.
I guess it pays to be the guy with money and a peach-fuzz mustache,
Man, I love 80s special effects.
"What do I care for a dame?"
Has the least boring dance scene I've seen.
We want "Step Across the Border!" [2]
Groovy.
garbage
The women of the silent era (even though this a "talkie") were so good looking. Hollywood seems to love the harlot look nowadays.
Not bad for 1903. I still like the animated Walt Disney version best.
He always has such great looking women, with the exception of "Nude Caboose".
Anyone who complains about not hearing lyrics on punk and metal music hasn't listened to opera. I wish I could decipher half of what she's saying cause I'm assuming it brings a little more narrative to what the short's supposed to be about. It's nice looking, though.
They sure love the rooster.
The language kept it a bit over my head. Definitely something I'll have to come back to later on.
The behind-the-scenes stuff is a more solid piece of comedy; the fact that the filmmakers can talk about aspects of making the movie as if there was anything profound or artful about it made for some pretty decent comedy.
Certainly not a flawless film, but it was funny.
The modern comedy.
10 minutes?
There wasn't a lot of depth or fluidity to the story but the visuals were pretty amazing, and the fact that there were no computer "special effects" is pretty remarkable. Could have benefited from being a bit longer with more time to develop the story.
Ferngully meets... just kidding. I'm pretty torn between wanting to rate this about 4-1/2 (rounded up to 5) and rating it 4, but some of the dialogue and acting was pretty weak, along with some of the characters (especially the antagonists). Character cliches are too bothersome to me to not make a note of. So 4 it is.
Interesting story concept, disappointing film. There are aspects that made the movie kind of cool, but not enough for me to want to forget about how cheesy it was. Like Roger Hayn below said, the acting and dialog was poor. I almost wanted to give it more than 3 stars.
