Could you be in love with someone who did not share your taste in films? over 2 years ago

I have never dated a girl who didn’t appreciate film. Well, that’s not entirely true; but I dumped a girl after she text messaged throughout an entire film.

Kubrick's Greatest Film over 2 years ago

IF you were going to fake the landing video, the first dude I would go to would be Kubrick, after seeing the technical brilliance of 2001.

Also, Buzz has a legit right hook.

Movie Viewing Sins over 2 years ago

The ultimate sin: TEXT MESSAGING. I cannot stand to hear that stupid clicking noise and seeing that glow during a film. It’s disrespectful to the audience and the director. It makes me want to donkey punch someone.

Scarist Documentaries? over 2 years ago

I’ve come to the point where very few films actually “scare” me, and since fact is often more disturbing than fiction, I was wondering what you guys think are some of the scariest documentaries you’ve seen?

It really doesn’t matter to me what the content is (because docs like Jesus Camp freak me out too), but, since Halloween is coming up, let’s put an emphasis on the paranormal or murderers and the like. Any suggestions?

Right on. Man on Wire was an excellent film, very satisfying on an emotional level for me.

THE ID, EGO, SUPEREGO GAME over 2 years ago

I’ll give it a shot:

Id: Daniel Plainview (There Will Be Blood)
Ego: Gerd Wiesler (The Lives of Others)
Superego: Jerry Lundegaard (Fargo)

Am I doing it right?

Do you know any good animations I should watch? over 2 years ago

OP, if you have a few minutes to spare, check out The Hand by Jiri Trnka. I ran across this Czech animated stop-motion short a while back and was very impressed at the underlying meaning.

After you watch it, read his short article on Wikipedia and prepare to have your mind blown. What an awesome dude.

Which film has changed your life forever? over 2 years ago

2001: A Space Odyssey.

It showed me that film can be so much more than just entertainment, it can predict the future, it can blow our minds, it can change the way people think.

I wish I would have watched every film I’ve ever seen while high. It slows down everything, you can see subtle things the director has done with the film. If you want to study cinematography in a film, stoned is the only way to go.

Subtitle Omission? over 2 years ago

Quick question I was hoping to get answered here.

I was watching Fellini’s 8 1/2 again tonight and noticed on the Criterion Edition during the scene in which Guido is looking at the rocket ship set about 1:19:43, there is a note that says:

[Skipped item nr 145]

Why was a line of dialogue omitted here and what was said? Has anyone seen this in any other Criterion releases?

Thanks in advance.

Ebert claims the new cut of Metropolis is streaming online on Friday night! over 2 years ago

When I heard about the new cut I was actually watching the film…I can’t say it won’t take some serious concentration to sit through an even longer cut of it.

It’s hard work to watch great films sometimes.

Subtitle Omission? over 2 years ago

Haha now I feel like an ass… “What we have here, is failure to communicate.”

But the subtitles read:

-Am I right?

-Right

[Skipped item nr 145]

-This is the rocket’s launch pad. The most important moment in the movie.

So what’s the point of the annotation if nothing was said in between?
