Why no Pat Garrett? In the end I think that's my favourite. Such a wonderful turn from Coburn, especially.

Again, ages to reply. I should apologise, but am known for my lameness in getting back to folk. Anyway, hope you are doing well. The rockies, eh? Nice. And for an artist residency. Sounds like a great thing - did it all go well? So, yes, been watching a fair bit. This site is a goldmine, esp. for the little hard-to-find gems, short films and the like. But maybe I should have a small break from watching so much stuff; I think it may do me good to do that once in a while - getting a good brain scrub and all that. But when there's so much I wanna see and lots available on the net, well... heh. I've never seen It's a Wonderful Life either, though I've never really felt the urge - but one day I guess. I bet if it's on one Xmas time, I'll cave and watch it... Blindness. Yeah. I really got a lot from it. I read the book a few years ago and loved what Saramago did with it, and whilst the film didn't totally capture what the book had in spades I still thought there was so much great stuff in there: Moore was perfect for the doctor's wife; the play with levels of sound design; and the staunch avoidance of taking a typical path for such an apocalyptic drama (look at some similar stuff since, and it seems quite starkly opposing, in ways). But, um, yeah, it wasn't everyone's cuppa... So it's been a while, you must have seen something - anything good? Or really good, perhaps? Take care JB.

Jeez, took me long enough to reply. That's too much on at work + being ill for a week for ya. But, good puns. I never turn away from a good, well-placed pun... re: 'Jeanne Dielman', what you say makes me want to see it even more. The criterion range are available to order online and some are ok-ish price-wise, but some are expensive (I think JD is around £25 - but it's an investment I wouldn't mind making). Ah yes, I'm good with slowness and nuance. Some of the best (and maybe, on occasion, a few of the worst) are all about this!... I've been watching a few things on here recently - that new Sally Potter film was going free for a week, though I just missed out on that. But I saw a Shirin Neshat short and an Apichatpong Weerasethakul (I actually took a lunch break during typing his name) short, which were both very good - the AW (lunch break over) short ('Phantoms of Nabua') was on this site here: http://www.animateprojects.org/films, which is great. You may have heard of it already though, but check it out if not. Speaking of Seyrig, I did just buy 'Muriel' (for £13) the other day - it makes sense that JD is next. I haven't watched 'Muriel' yet but am pretty positive I'll dig it. Mind you, I didn't like 'Marienbad' too much, eep. Out of interest, and I know it will likley depend on the country, but do you know if either any Frederick Wiseman or James Benning (slowness and nuance, anyone?) films are readily available to buy? I've had a brief squizz but little info turned up... Hope you're having a good week, JB.

Ha, I'm surprised that you've heard of my hometown, small as it is. I only wish it was as exotic as it sounds (it often gets run down by folks, perhaps rightly so sometimes - though it's a stone's throw from London, so win-some-lose-some!). Sounds like a delightful kitchen-based action too: "take a spoon and briskly 'ipswich' the eggs in a bowl, leave to set before 'suffolking' in some flour..." I may move to London in the next few years - esp. as the last art cinema has just closed. Bloody recession. Boo-hiss-boo... "Deliciously promiscuous" - nice one. Erratic would be another. I've been kind of adding with abandon - maybe a close re-look/cull is required, but I do love each title for a multitude of reasons. Compiling top lists of these things is always tricky... I'm fuming (comically) with envy that you've seen 'Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles'. Been trying to catch that one for years. That good huh? I heard it's getting/had a Criterion release. I'm hoping so anyway. Like your list here a lot. So many ace selections... I wish I could sound all clever and say that the photo was deliberately inspired by the Eno cover, but I hadn't actually heard of that album! Darn it, there goes that slice of street cred... What about all-time favourites - which would they be from your list? Good meeting you JB.

Hi. I'm relatively new on this site. I like your list - there are a fair few titles that I've been meaning to catch up with, for some time now, on there. Good haul. I added you to my page - hello!

The Dead Zone

Thrilled to see this finally on the DC page. Would have to disagree with the notion that this is not in keeping with Cronenberg’s personal thematic trajectory. It still strikes me as deeply body conscious…  read review
