Movies you love, but everyone else hates. over 2 years ago

the good night.,
every single person i know hate it, but i find it very beautiful, sure it’s not well executed (this is a debut film from jake paltrow fyi), but the idea is great, at least for me, this movie left me a deep impression, maybe more because of a my personal thing, i happened to experienced one of the thing in the movie, a lucid dream thing, and ‘the good night’ is the only film i’ve seen which brings up that subject comprehensively and accurately (well i haven’t seen waking life yet), and that subject for me has a great emotional factor, maybe other people (or most people) who never actually experiencing it will find that as a peculiar fantasy..

and ‘bringing out the dead’, it’s a shame that hollywood didn’t welcome the ‘european’ style from scorsese, this movie is a mixture of a black comedy from after hours and the war in a heart of travis bickle in taxi driver..

pulp fiction, haha i know that doesn’t sounds very convincing, considering it as one of the greatest entertainment i ever had, i was just in a jaded condition at that time..
but the true winner is the sound of music, i watched it like 6-7 times, and i’m not finished yet..

Best Film By Each of These Directors: Contemporary Non-Americans over 2 years ago

Mike Leigh – naked

Marc Forster – the kite runner
Ang Lee – only seen brokeback mountain, beautiful movie though

Michel Gondry – science of sleep
Guillermo Del Toro – pan’s labyrinth
Alfonso Cuaron – only seen children of men, great
Alejandro Gonzelez Inurritu – only seen babel, great
Neil Jordan – only seen we’re no angels, this is kinda cheap but it’s funny as hell

Mike Newell – only seen four weddings and a funeral, sweet
Roger Donaldson – only seen cocktail, very bad
Peter Weir – the truman show
Park Chan Wook – oldboy
Lasse Hallstrom – only seen casanova, nothing special
Ridley Scott – matchstick men
tom tykwer – perfume (i think tom tykwer deserve this spot)

Films leaving a big smile on your face over 2 years ago

@KUNAM88

exactly my point, it is go back to the viewers subjective side, i know it’s hard for you to accept the idea that after hours made me smile, the same reason that i couldn’t believe the film as devastating as la vita e bella could make a single man smile.,
but i admit i was wrong, i didn’t explain the reason why i pick after hours, it is more of the idea that scorsese actually made a comedy, which is a new thing for me at that time, and i love that feeling.,
thanks though for wasting your time, at least you enjoyed wasting that time to show off your intelligence and superiority in this thread, hehe just kiddin mate,

Favorite use of a song in a film. over 2 years ago

’ you can always get what you want ’ by the rolling stones in LEOLO, i found that very appropriate.,
and jeff beck great instrumental rendition of ’ a day in a live’ in ACROSS THE UNIVERSE, which is the only good cover in whole movie,
nancy sinatra’s ’ bang bang ’ in KILL BILL vol 1,
oh and ’ please please let me get what i want ’ clayhill’s version in THIS IS ENGLAND is delicately delightful and doing a huge favor for the movie..

talkin about this year’s best movie, it’s like talkin about disappointment for me, as i haven’t seen one that really pleased me, and the new film from two of my fave director, shutter island and the tree of life, has been pushed to release in 2010, and my fave european director, tom tykwer, hugely disappoint me with taking a typical hollywood project this year.,
but i still have my faith in this year with the likes of ‘the serious man’, ‘the road’ and ‘up in the air’ are still on the line..

yes i also think spike jonze owes charlie kaufman for his career, i mean, he got an oscar nomination for his directorial debut if im not mistaken for being john malkovich, so i think it’s very interesting to see ‘where the wild things are’, where spike jonze did all the wild things without a help from his wild friend charlie kaufman, he direct and wrote the screenplay by himself, i personally do not really expect it to be great..

hmm klo menurut gw sih masih bagusan cache drpd white ribbon, cache intense-nya gila2an, klo white ribbon,, ya liat sendiri aja deh, ga enak ngasih spoiler

500 days of summer gara2 overhyped aja sih klo menurut gw, overall cukup menghibur dan lebih baik dr film2 sejenisnya, walaupun tetep aja banyak hollywood clichesnya.,

by the way, do you guys like terrence malick’s film? for me he is the best director today, what do you guys think about him?
