many people think its boring, and pretentious.,
but i didn’t find it boring at all! this keeps my eyes open and my heart pumping, from the opening to that Legendary last word !
i know,i know, the plot is a little bit preposterous. but really, this film teach me one important thing, that,no matter how bad the situation is,we should face life with a SMILE! even a happiness can be found in a little tragic situation out there.,
i know,i know, the plot is a little bit preposterous. but really, this film teach me one important thing, that,no matter how bad the situation is,we should face life with a SMILE! even a happiness can be found in a little tragic situation out there.,
no one seems to named Alfred Lutter, who played Ellen Burstyn’s son in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, just shows how overlooked this film is,among other Scorsese masterpiece
by the time i see the title of this thread, one film that appear in my head is GRAN TORINO.
and i’m surprised that that film is this thread conversation starter.yeah, that korean is awful
Chungking Express (i’m glad many mention this, this is really a wonderful simple film by wong-kar-wai)
Love Actually
La Vita E Bella
Magnolia (yeah, that little smile of Melora Walters right in the end, makes me smile too)
1.Mother (please, academy, make this best foreign language film of the year)
2.Inglourious basterds
3.500 Days of Summer
4.Up
5.Antichrist (that beautiful opening shot alone is enough to grant it this spot)
although i have to admit that Lean has a masterful skill of cinematography, but i never got into his films (DR.Zhivago, Lawrence of Arabia, and The Bridge of River kwai, all are bored me to death)
still trying to understand him with BRIEF ENCOUNTER.,probably gonna catch it sometimes in the future
John Woo – Face Off (yeah,it stupid, but its a dumb FUN!)
Mike Leigh – only seen Naked so far
Stephen Frears – High Fidelity
Marc Forster – Stranger Than Fiction
Bela Tarr – nope yet seen any his films
Wong Kar Wai – only seen Chungking Express so far,but i do believe it is his best, since i don’t believe a film this full of charm could get topped
Ang Lee – never a fan of him,i choose Crouching Tiger
Atom Egoyan – not yet
Costa-Gavras – not yet
Michel Gondry – Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,of course
Guillermo Del Toro – Pan’s labyrinth 100 %
Alfonso Cuaron – Children of Men
Alejandro Gonzelez Inurritu – 21 Grams
Arturo Ripstein – not yet
Neil Jordan – hmm,The Crying Game
Danny Boyle – Slumdog Millionaire
Mike Newell – again, not a big fan, Harry Potter 4,haha
Nuri Bilge Ceylan – not yet
Roger Donaldson – The Recruit
Philip Noyce – The bone Collector
Peter Weir – Dead Poets Society
Park Chan Wook – tough,Oldboy
Lasse Hallstrom – 1408,since i find all his drama boring
Ridley Scott – Gladiator
Walter Salles – The Motorcycle Diaries
well,i thought In the mood for love is more straightforward, and easy to digest,.while 2046 is a little bit confusing at times, but i do find it a more rewarding experience..but whatever it is,both is an unquestionable masterpiece !
1. Mulholland Dr. -based on the fanbase it gather since its release, this is a really defining motion picture..
2. Lord of The Rings -define “epic” into a next level
3. Memento -show that a film can goes to B to A,not just A to B
4. Oldboy -introducing (well, unleash,to be precised) the Cinema of korea into the world
5. Y Tu Mama Tambien -just like Oldboy, but this time, mexican Cinema
6. The Dark knight -tell the world that,Superhero movies is not for children only
7. 25th hour -Capture the post 9/11 image suitably
8. Gladiator -rejuvenated the sword sandals genre (without this, there’s no Troy,Kingdom of Heaven,Alexander)
9. Moulin Rouge ! -just like gladiator, but this time, musical genre
10. Little Miss Sunshine -introducing the sentence “a little movie that could”
it looks you miss the point,.though. by the term movie that makes you smile,it means a movie, that shile,or watching it,there are some sort of happiness,or optimistic feelings, that kind of way.,not smile because its funny or else
i do agree with you saying that AFTER HOURS is a great black comedy, but i can’t imagine a movie that grim and dark could make me smile after watching it
