Blindness was one of those films that I went into wanting so desperately to love and cherish, but in the end I felt ultimately cheated by too much of an emphasis on style over substance. (another example of this same situation that comes to mind is ‘A Very Long Engagement’, though in comparison, I much prefer the latter)….
I must say that my belief that Fernando Meirelles could do no wrong was a gross overstatement on my part; Blindness was a mess.
I’m sure this in great part had to do with the very lackluster screenplay by Don McKellar, and I have not read Jose Saramago’s novel, but ultimately it was very much a disappointment.
I very much am apathetic towards most of Costner’s work (except for JFK), and in that falls Robin Hood. I can’t say I hated the film, but I can say I did not find it very captivating.
Though I must say the 1938 version is brilliant.
Pusher II happens to be one of my all-time favorite films…. though I think 3 is especially well-done too.
I have yet to see Bronson, but look forward to seeing it in the next few days!
other than in the past with The Wire and Da Ali G Show, Curb is the only TV show that I can say that I find brilliance in every episode.
I think it might be common for many people, but upon seeing the first few episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm, I was extremely extremely underwhelmed to the point that I could not understand at all the praise it was getting. Needless to say I went back and tried the series again, only to find myself falling in love season after season with almost every aspect of the show.
Props to HBO for so many of their programming choices.
