An issue w/ modern filmmaking. He gets it: “If I see another over-the-shoulder shot, I’m going to blow my brains out.” - Steven Soderbergh about 8 hours ago via Read It Late
Not a fan. Does everything need to be spelled out at least 3 times in his film?!! The audience is much smarter than you seem to believe, Mr. Singer.
96% on Rotten Tomatoes for 13 ASSASSINS?!?? It was good, but not THAT good. Main problem, Miike's main villain is great for 1st half, and SO underwhelming for 2nd half. He was so evil, so perverse- then when the big battle happens, he becomes such an uninteresting character. Plus, our heroes become invincible to hundreds of men. Was anyone in suspense??!? So, where is the true sense of danger and battle??? :-/
The most anticipated film of my life. After reading the Cannes reviews, I am speechless. :)
That was terribly terribly disappointing. I don't want to spoil anything, but I literally feel as though I was cheated out of an hour and half of my time. The beginning is promising; that's really all I can say. Sure, the production value looks fairly high, but this film really should be advertised as an experience and look at THE EFFECTS OF AN ALIEN INVASION ON A POPULATION. Not a truly terrifying account when all you see is (mostly) this outcome, but no real action to speak of. Just watch Cloverfield again.
so so so sad. :( I miss her already.
I'm actually very disappointed with this film. See it on Netflix streaming and we can talk.
The third film was alright, but I have to say I was disappointed by these the two first films in the trilogy. I really wanted to like them, but ultimately I found them to be quite dull.... just go watch some Prime Suspect or Wire In the Blood and (at least for me) you'll find much much more intrigue and excitement.
where can I find a copy of this in the U.S. ahhhhhh!!!
yes. yes. yes. cannot wait to see this at the Arclight.
I'm not so much offended by the subject matter but rather the filmmaking which is so amateur that I was extremely disappointed by almost every aspect of this film. Yes, some scenes are very very graphic and disgusting, but the way in which they are portrayed makes it gratuities and utterly loses even its shock value. Not impressed in the slightest.
In the past two weeks, I have watched the film two more times since it's theatrical release.... and I'm in the 4 1/2 stars range.... Really quite well done (albeit slightly over-directed by Tom Ford- although yes, it is his first film). Other than Colin Firth's performance, the soundtrack (by Abel Korzeniowski and parts by Shigeru Umebayashi) easily deserves recognition for its complete brilliance.
wonderful commentary on the Criterion blu-ray by Italian film scholar David Forgacs. Not to mention, a haunting, beautiful film.
so so good... why have I never sat down and watched Ozu's original "A Story of Floating Weeds"...??
I wish I were at Cannes this year just for Iñárritu's new BIUTIFUL. arg.
stunning choreography by d.p. Robbie Ryan... wow.
amazing cinematography! wow. lots of respect.
what amazing cinematography!! :)
yes, Slumdog is wonderful. Trainspotting is excellent. etc etc. But where is the brilliant 'Shallow Grave'!!??!
one of the main reasons I got so into film growing up.... thank you Mr. Melville.
Other than Chaplin's Gold Rush, no other film has struck me as so brilliant and consistently funny after numerous viewings. Keaton is a genius and while I love much of his other work, The General is the one that I always go back to. A wonderful film that has captured the hearts of my whole entire family. respek. ;P
One of the few films that I am positive I will be comfortable showing my (future) kids in their younger years. A truly wonderful film for all ages.
