Altman’s alright…I never thought that any of his films were that spectacular. Anderson on the other hand is a genius and i’m excited about hearing of a new film
I downloaded and watched Twilight finally just to see what all the hubub was about and I didn’t think it was all that bad. I’d most likely still give it 1 star in comparison to the thousands of other “great” films that I have seen in my life. I’m sure we all wish that these so-called “Twilight” fans would open there minds to more intellectual films..but they could say the same about all of us snobs opening our minds to the fact that we don’t have to go and see Twilght and we should just leave them alone. We all have to remember what films that we were into way back when we were teenagers. I know that I was a fan of a lot of “bad” films that really make me cringe now.
1. Inglorious Basterds
2. Star Trek
3. District 9
4. Watchmen
5. Up
6. Funny People
7. Drag Me To Hell
8. Paranormal Activities
9. 500 Days Of Summer
10. Public Enemies
There Will Be Blood is truly a fantastic film as are ALL of PT Anderson’s masterpiece’s but I would really have to say that Magnolia is my personal fave followed very fckin closley by Boogie Nights
I loved all of Nolan’s films! What a bunch of whining babies on here to say that he has peaked on his first film! Totally lame guys..really lame. What have you done?
Any movie with Hallucinatory drug use. For example, Requiem for a dream, Easy Rider and now I recently just watched Bad Lieutenant…the new one, but both versions are disturbing.
The MOST disturbing film of all time for me was Eraserhead! It really gave me the creeps
God please not Gilliam!!! He’s just crap nowadays. Personally I would love to see Jackson back as director because it should’ve been him in the first place.
This topic is pissing me off! I think that they should just cancel the movie all together and wait until Jackson is more interested in commiting in the future!
1. Taxi Driver
2. 2001: A Space Odyssey
3. The English Patient
4. Magnolia
5. Pulp Fiction
6. Boogie Nights
7. Rear Window
8. Star Wars
9. Vertigo
10. Fellowship Of The Ring
1. Family Guy
2. Battlestar Galactica
3. Lost
4. Friends
5. Flight Of The Conchords
6. Extras
7. Rescue Me
8. Rome
9. Arrested Development
10. The Office
I think that it would have to be Pulp Fiction which will most positively be the Citizen Kane of the future. Sort of like “Smells Like Teen Spirit” is the “Houndog” of the 90’s.
I agree with Bret Bynum. People are just getting too freakin serious.
Step 1 pick a color film that affected you most
Step 2 make above film Thee film of the color era
Step 3 ignore everyone else’s choices
Step 4 continue watching great films
You know it’s funny but the answer to this question has been right in front of us all along.
If you gather up all the of the professional critics i’m sure they would come up with:
Thee Silent film – Birth Of A Nation
Thee B&W Film – Citizen Kane
Thee Color Film – The Godfather
David that is your opinion isn’t it? I think that Taxi Driver is Scorsese’s finest film and one of the greatest films ever made. King of Comedy is NOT a “great” film..honestly, man.
I did not like The Red Shoes. Yeah I know some people on here will want to shoot me but whatever..I said it
Thanks for the tip Kenji but believe me I have meticulously studied the They Shoot Pictures, Don’t They website and have seen a great number of those film already as well as all of the Sight and Sound films voted…but that is why I signed up for The Auteurs (Mubi, rather) so I could dive deeper into cinema and eventually see every film that could possibly be worth seeing, with great help from you and others that have some excellent film knowledge on this website
Oh and a note to apursansar…why so serious?
All I was trying to do was make an effort in answering the topic’s question…not too many people seem to want to take a stab at it. It’s like dealing with a bunch of politicians
I’d say Grace Kelly from past days for sure but more recently I really love Zooey Deschanel and Rachel Weisz, both super freakin hot…with really awesome personalities too of course
