Absolute Coen's. Not my favourite film they've done, but delivers none the less.
I had high expectations for Science Of Sleep and I'm a fan of other work by Gondry, but this was tiring and draining to watch. It seems you can overdo surreal dream sequences, this whole film, in fact, was constantly flitting between them.
Really enjoyed District 9. The faux documentary feel about it made it even more impressive. I think this deserves more of that money then James Cameron and Avatar, this was much more entertaining. Visually, although it wasn't drenched in pretty, sickly colours like Avatar, I believe it is equally as impressive.
One of the bleakest movies I think I've seen. Brilliantly done though, I haven't read the book, but I imagine this adaptation does it justice. I thought the performances particularly stood out.
A lot of people are very critical of Michael Cera being very Michael Cera-esque, but he does it very well, and I think this film is quite good, indie like quirkyness, but hey, since Juno was released, everythings indie and quirky ain't it.
Great, fun movie! Was expecting Shaun of the Dead in an americanised form, but this was surprisingly original. Definately worth a watch,if only for the slow motion scenes at the beginning, hilarious.
I liked the concept, but the film dragged and the characters were never developed.
Hugely disapointing. The story doesen't have any direction and it leaves you feeling remarkably unsatisfied.
This films tells a typical love story in which boy falls in love with girl and has to woo her, however it is set against the backdrop of the 90's at a time when hip-hop and rap was at its peak. The ending, whilst not offering a hollywood happy ending, is none-the-less moving and romantic.
Without a doubt, one of my favourite films. The tiny budget means it relies on dialogue, luckily, every line is brilliant. The fact that it can stand its own against any Hollywood film even without all the shiny production shows how good ths film is.
I was initially sceptical about this film, because it seemed to be exactly like ever other quirky, indie hit mimicking Juno this year, however... I found it to be an enjoyable watch. Michael Cera (also in Juno) really is the driving force I think though, the social awkwardness of his character is very genuine and I think he's an easily relatable character. Definately worth a watch, especially if you're into the quirky, underground scene, like everyone is these days.
Moving, to say the least. I found it to be a gritty and real (as real as I imagine heoin addiction is anyway, can't comment really) film. Bleak and depressing, but brilliant. In the beginning, we see a romanticised version of addiction, that eventually sinks into an awful outcome for all the characters. That contrast makes all the difference in this film I think.
Quite an intense watch, mainly because of Rockwell's performance. He's a believable character, making it all the more astonishing when we realise what's happening on the moon base. I also really liked the old school sci-fi look about the film. Definately a good'un.
I thought this was going to be great, the trailer made it out to look very funny. I was admittedly disapointed, but it was still an entertaining film, if a bit drawn out and plotless. Great cast, Jeff Bridges is particularly good as always. Worth a watch at least.
