dunno if anyone else has posted these but i think all of the unreleased UK posters for gomorrah should be considered.
Not sure how many of these have been addressed, but putting in my 2 cents
1. iPhone app and/or Boxee app for viewing, rating, reviewing, posting in the forums and possibly a showtimes function for Arthouse and Independent cinemas.
2. Put all the Instant View Criterion movies on the Auteurs as well (some are missing if I’m not mistaken. Just for completists’ sake).
3. Formatting bar when editing posts.
4. More selective front page view (ability to block certain types of posts from appearing)
5. Add links to individual movie pages like future/past screenings, related special events like Q&As, and set up a user-generated “I attended this” network for each event not unlike Songkick.com
:D Other than that, the site’s really awesome. I come here all the time. Hope to see you at SXSW, efe!
@Glemaud
Yes I can see how [5.] would be a problem. Just a thought. There really should be some kind of way for people who regularly attend those kinds of events to connect though.
As for [3.] yeah I know how to format, I’m just saying it would be just a bit more convenient if it was GUI’d
By [2.] I mean that on the Criterion website there are several films available to watch online by paying $5.00, that aren’t available on the Auteurs to watch for $5.00, and yet they share ownership. Another problem in that vein is the amount of movies only available to view in certain countries. It would be nice to see the entire extent of those movies that are online, available to watch in every country, on each site. It’s not really a problem, it would just be nice and would make both sites look more professional.
And why no iPhone app? Just unnecessary? I guess it would attract a lot of the kind of people that simply track each latest tech advancement, rather than people actually interested in film.
Anything I read about Avatar is pretty intensely negative in some kind of loving, tender light. We all agree that it’s contrived, borrows from every movie under the sun, does all kinds of things wrong, yet we accept it as some kind of marvel, some kind of way forward in filmmaking, even though no other filmmaker could realistically achieve the amount of support and money James Cameron required in order to make it “work.”
I’m sorry, I’m kind of putting my foot in this discussion, but what’s the deal? Why do people instinctively “like” this movie even when they constantly notate the flaws?
Might be too obvious to point out Miike and Cronenberg but…
Audition, A Dangerous Method, Ichi the Killer, Videodrome all have sado-masochistic elements.
Not sure if you’re going purely for the BDSM angle but I’d also add The Bitter Tea of General Yen to the debate. Despite sharing an obvious similarity in title to the Fassbinder film, the plot is essentially about Stockholm Syndrome. For 1933 (and Frank Capra!!) it’s pretty subversive stuff.

Maybe I’m just way too excited by my new iPhone
