#1: Kate Winslet & Melanie Lynsky – Heavenly Creatures (if they were young enough to count)
In no particular order:
Lina Leandersson & Kåre Hedebrant – Let The Right One In
Ivana Baquero – Pans Labyrinth
Peter Ostrum – Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory
Natalie Portman – Leon The Professional
Jodie Foster – Taxi Driver
Dakota Fanning – Just about anything prior to 2005
Hayley Joel Osment – A.I. Artificial Intelligence
Tatum O’Neal – Paper Moon
Abigail Breslin – Little Miss Sunshine

Priceless
Marsh – I think Shirley Temple was entertaining and adorable, but I don’t think she was by any means a great actress.
Although Heidi does tend to get to me, I think it’s mainly nostalgia.
I 100% concur that The Aryan Papers would have been a sight to behold, if you go on youtube I think you can find an entire documentary on the woman who was to play the lead. Also would have liked to see how different A.I. would be if Kubrick had directed that.
I’d have also liked to see anything else Charles Laughton would have directed (if that’s what’s implied) since Night of the Hunter was so good.
I sometimes crave a well done, slightly trashy, action packed film, which is probably why I’ve seen Wanted a few dozen times, so I am actually very excited for Salt. Angelina Jolie, who I agree is a bit overexposed nowadays, continues to be a great, kick ass female lead which I think is in very short supply.
I will definitely be seeing it.
Pulp Fiction I totally forgot about the head explosion!!! So just the mere fact that it somehow caught me by surprise makes it numero uno for me.
Also, long forgotten and not widely appreciated, I dig the aliens heads exploding in Mars Attacks! Green goo. Lol
I’m glad to finally hear someone talking about Westworld. I just saw it recently and really liked it. On it’s sci-fi end it’s doesn’t go ridiculously futuristic or deep into societal finger waving and on the western side it’s very fun and almost classic even. Really great movie. Yul Brenner!!!
As far as film genres go I’m always attracted to good Suspense/Thrillers and Mysteries simply because there aren’t many good ones made these days. Film Noir also always grabs my attention. Perhaps I just like low lighting and plays on shadows.
Also, being a woman, a good romance just makes me go weak at the knees. Or anything with Bette Davis, I feel like her films are a genre all their own!
And to disliking genres – That, in my opinion, is all a matter of the films you see. I really despised Westerns for a long while until a friend introduced me to Leone, who is a genius, and completely changed my way of thinking about the entire genre.
Brick by the way, one of my absolute favorite films, terribly well done movie!!
I also really liked Stanley Kubrick’s Boxes which is a great documentary that examines his precision and intricacy in film making and in life. He kept endless amounts of notes, and pictures from all of his preproduction work, including films that were never made, and he kept absolutely everything he wrote down. The director goes to his home in england to find that there are literally hundreds maybe even thousands of boxes of his notes. They are mostly kept in a trailer that was purchased specifically for these boxes!
The boxes were later donated to a school in London where students can go look through the boxes (and mind) of one of the worlds greatest directors. It’s really interesting stuff.
Brad – It’s really not. It’s all but terrible, but honestly if I were you I wouldn’t listen to me anyway. Lol. So feel free to see for yourself.
One movie I’m getting more and more excited about is The Road, it looks amazing, and also The Book of Eli, but I think that comes out early next year.
I seem to have a fondness for post apocalyptic cinema. Hahaha.
Well the rumor is that with Gran Torino done with we won’t be seeing Clint on camera again. So I doubt seeing more of him on film.
Jack, I would have liked to have seen him stop with The Departed, that would have been a GREAT way to retire, but he’ll definitely be on screen again sometime soon I’m sure. As far as the two of them together. . . I’m not sure how well it would play for exactly this reason :
“But since we’re just imagining, I’d like to see Nicholson’s battiness bouncing off of Eastwood’s stoic.
—PolarisDiB”
I think the two might cancel each other out and leave the film with a really weird feeling. Lol.
But hey, I’d at least want to see for myself, so go for it I guess!
The Q’s
1. How many Allen films have you seen?
2. What is your favourite? (No equivocating by choosing two)
3. Why?
4. Worst movie?
5. Has his output been much weaker since the beginning of the century?
6. What was the last film he made where he was on top form?
The A’s
1. 15-ish (not quite sure)
2. Manhattan (although I also adore Hannah and her Sisters and of course Annie Hall)
3. It is such a comically realistic look at human relationships and our inability to think rationally at times. It made me fall in love with New York just as much as Woody loves it, and the black and white is primo. I’ve never been to New York and have always imagined it in black in white, with Gershwin music and a lavish studio apartment. :)
4. As of right now The Curse of the Jade Scorpion yuck
5. Well of course his work isn’t as great as it was in his early years, but that’s to be expected out of any artistic forum in my opinion. That doesn’t mean he’s not still doing quality work that can, at times, be head and shoulders above the younger generation.
6. I think both Whatever Works and Vicky Cristina Barcelona were good films. Top form? I don’t know, but great movies.
I guess “top form” I’d agree with Ran Picado that Deconstructing Harry was probably the last of his films to realllllllly feel like one of his films.

Yeah, I recently saw Mr. & Mrs. Smith and was a bit perplexed by the choice of film.
Just ok, which is poor for Hitch, he’s much better than that.
