almost kind of scary for a little while, then they start to actually show the ghosts...
an absolutely amazing experience. don't expect a narrative because you'll be endlessly frustrated; it's more of a collage of sights and sounds all with the same underlying idea.
say whaaat? doesn't matter. it's glorious.
just bugnuts crazy enough that i cant totally hate it. has some really well done, effective scenes but also a million things that dont add up in any way and dont make any sense whatsoever... but that's sort of the appeal, isn't it?
just about the worst. makes so little sense that it starts to make anti-sense.
something about this movie just hit me in the right way. ridiculous.
never been much of a fan of aronofsky before, but consider me converted. hot damn this movie.
come on folks. blair witch hoodwinked you, so did open water, why did you let it happen again? its just bad improv, scenes of "character development" that make you want to kill the characters, and occasional lo-fi "scares"...boo. the hype machine scores another one...though i feel like this movie is largely forgotten by now...
weird, man. really weird. i liked it.
pretty fun but ultimately of no consequence. still, its funny and inventive and an original concept, so its worthwhile. i just cant connect to high-concept gimmicky (no matter how clever) flicks....
park chan-wook says "fuck you, stephanie meyer"
i refuse to believe this movie was made with horror in mind. its so damn funny, so ridiculously flat and deadpan, that it has to be some sort of brilliant piece of anti-comedy...or it's just absolute crap written and directed by some sort of bizarre alien who has no concept of how humans act.
the worst five minutes of a movie i've ever watched. now, i know it's not right to judge a movie without having seen all of it, but i also think if the first five minutes are so offensively awful that you can't bear to watch the rest, that may be saying something.
way too long with some scenes that go absolutely nowhere, but also amazingly poetic and beautiful....sort of lulls you into a trance so you don't even mind the scenes that serve no real purpose...
huh whaaaaaat? this movie is awesome/terrible. not like "so bad it's good"...its just equally bad and good. kind of like all of his films. you can't help but love a filmmaker who throws EVERYTHING at the wall and doesn't care if any of it sticks or not
oh man. this movie.
such a cliche, but very true here- not anywhere near as good as the book. unspeakable horrors are best left to the imagination- they immediately lose impact when they're made literal before our eyes onscreen. also, the film has a very closed off, sanitary feel- shots are composed more for beauty than any real deep meaning, and all of the sets look just like that- sets. i just expected more, given the talent involved.
pretty much amazing.
Absolute garbage. Johnny Depp really needs to stop choosing roles based on how much make-up he gets to wear, and start playing human beings again. Also Tim Burton needs his directing license taken away. Interesting choice to portray Alice as mentally handicapped. How else to explain why SHE DOESNT FUCKING GET ANYTHING THE ENTIRE MOVIE?
honestly, the only way ive been able to make it through the whole thing is with rifftrax...god its bad. so very bad. its worse than you've heard.
i have no idea what happened, but i loved it. but i think it's obvious where the handprint on the window came from.
its ok if you hate it, but i love it. subsequent viewings only strengthen my love. yes, the hype was ridiculous, and yes, it's ridiculous that anyone who doesn't LOOOVE IT is getting slain by the online hordes...but isn't it nice that people feel that passionately about something in the summer?
better than i thought it would be...but i was expecting an obnoxious twee disaster.
I was actually sort of blown away by how much I loved this movie. I think it's Tarantino's best in a long time, and possibly period. I know a lot of people rip on it solely because it's a Tarantino film, but I think he's really legitimized himself with this one.
