There are a few other shorts and TV things that I haven’t seen, but these are all worthwhile watches in my view (big Lynch admirer). I’m surprised at the fact that I’ve never thought of listing my preferred Lynch films in any qualitative order.
Allison – hi, by the way – I actually think Scoop was one of his most fun, carefree films of the last decade. He was very funny himself and worked well with Scarlett Johannson in it. It reminded me slightly of Manhattan Murder Mystery (but perhaps wasn’t quite as good as that). I’m always grateful for a ‘fun’ Woody film though.
I’ve always enjoyed a lot of, or, well, practically nearly all of Jonathan Rosenbaum’s criticism, especially the way he mines some undervalued films – which maybe deserve closer inspection – for fresh visual pleasures or newer ways of looking at them. Also, Anne Billson, who writes fortnightly for UK’s the Guardian, is exemplary. She often has a lot of great unpretentious but concrete views on certain films; and she loves horror like I do, too.
