About Me

A work in progress: both me and this page. A few of those I’ve chosen as FAVORITE AUTEURS I’ve seen less than half of their films, but I have high hopes. I live in Metro Phoenix so my opportunities to see great films on the big screen is limited to near zero. My DVD does not play all regions. I have no Blue Ray player yet except my laptop. Social networking has expanded my film knowledge, but has added a serious distraction to my film viewing. A couple of the films under WANTS TO WATCH I have seen — even seen several times — but it’s been some 3 or so decades (those usually show up on both the WANTS TO WATCH and FAVORITE FILMS list).

By the way, you can’t choose George Clooney or Charles Laughton as a FAVORITE AUTEUR since they are considered CAST and not DIRECTOR (so much for “Night of the Hunter”, “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind” and “Good Night and Good Luck”).

I like the whole random choice of 4 of my FAVORITE FILMS below. I try to see some connection between the 4. Sometimes it’s easy, other times it takes a little imagination.

Oh . . . and I posted some movies as FAVORITE FILMS that I think are just plain fun and continue to be great fun for me (sorry). But I think I did my duty to the canon (though still “my” favorites) and the search for an aesthetic — sometimes approaching borderline spiritual — experience.

I might have been somewhat generous or, in-all-likelihood, pretty pedantic and fairly dishonest with jut a few of my choices for FAVORITE FILMS. And for that I’m truly sorry — it’s sort of an impulse thing. Though in my own defense, I think I’ve selected more than enough low-brow stuff to balance that out.

Frankenweenie--2

Frankenweenie

This film made me remember why I ever liked/loved Tim Burton: he made me feel emotional in a deep and sentimental way over things absurd and grotesque. It evokes the good memories of childhood -- and I know I'm not alone in this.

I love your comment on Kubelka's Our African Trip. Its a shame that copy on the net. And wow what a wonderfully eclectic taste that embraces de Toth and Conner!

Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol

OK . . . I’ve read the book and seen several different takes on this, but since this was my earliest introduction to “A Christmas Carol”, a version which I saw several times in my formative years…  read review
