I am a huge fan of Ingmar Bergman’s films. I think the films he made from the mid 50’s to the mid 60’s represent some of the finest and most consistently outstanding work that any director has ever produced over a similar 10-year period. Starting with “Smiles of a Summer Night” released in 1955 and ending with “Persona” in 1966, he directed an amazing group of classic and iconic films, a list which includes: The Seventh Seal, The Virgin Spring (which won an Oscar for best foreign language film), Through a Glass Darkly (also winning best foreign language film Oscar), Wild Strawberries, Winter Light, The Silence, and The Magician. A couple of his most amazing works were produced outside of this ten year, of course, “Scenes from a Marriage,” released in 1973 and “Fanny and Alexander” his final Oscar winning film from 1982.
