When I meet a filmmaker online, I like to ask, "Where can I find your films without pirating them?" I've so far gotten onto Swanberg's subscription service and am working out something with Diaz's assistant to get some of his films in October. Contact me and we can figure out prices and films. I'm just a poor college student, but I like investing in filmmakers when I get the chance.
Well coming in late on the wishing of happy holidays and all, BUT not so late as to get in a HAPPY NEW YEAR! Here's to a dizzingly creative 2012! :)
Hey, Jesse. Thanks for the add! :) I'm just a "beginning" fan of Rollin's films. THE IRON ROSE, THE NUDE VAMPIRE, and ZOMBIE LAKE are the only films I've seen by him. THE IRON ROSE is one of the best (but most fascinating) '70s Euro-Horror films I've seen by him, also his rarest. Its storyline along with its cinematography and music makes the film very atmospheric the first time you watch it & each viewing (after the first time) moves the audience deeper with its storyline while it touches your soul and brings you inside it. I love the scene where Françoise Pascal dances around the cemetery as well the scene where she is at the beach alone. I'm pretty excited for Redemption Films to release it on American home video for the first time next month. (Altough, they already released it in the UK once around 2005). THE NUDE VAMPIRE was okay, I didn't like ZOMBIE LAKE (becuase it was rather hokey). Yet, I will try to watch more of Rollin's films soon. You also a fan of Tarkovsky? He is one of cinema's greatest filmmakers, I've seen all of his films except IVAN'S CHILDHOOD. I love both SOLARIS and STALKER. Thanks again for dropping by and the follow.
You bet Christopher. Yeah I agree about Zombie Lake (although I kind of like its hokeyness). So the other Rollin films you should try are: LIPS OF BLOOD, REQUIEM FOR A VAMPIRE, SHIVER OF THE VAMPIRES, THE GRAPES OF DEATH, NIGHT OF THE HUNTED, FASCINATION, THE LIVING DEAD GIRL and THE ESCAPEES. Those are the ones I like best. Also I highly recommend some Jesus Franco films, particularly A VIRGIN AMONG THE LIVING DEAD. That should only be seen in French (with English subtitles if needed) the English dubbing is horrible. And Rollin was hired to film some zombie scenes to add to the film- that cut should be avoided. The original cut (just Franco's scenes) is beautiful, poetic and creepy. Yes Tarkovsky is one of my favorites besides Ozu, Rollin, Bela Tarr and Kenji Mizoguchi
Anytime, pal. Thanks for the recommendations. Franco, Ozu, Tarr, & Mizgouchi are also brilliant directors as well. (You've got a great taste in cinema, too.) I've seen all of Ozu's films and well most of Franco's films. Have you seen ether SATANTANGO or UGETSU yet?
Ugetsu and Satantango are two of my favorite films. If I had to pick a favorite film it would probably be Satantango.
I'd agree with you on SATANTANGO. Still, the longest film I've ever watched. Recently, I've done some lists on my profile and I though you might like to check out (whenver you have time). One's on Genuis And Atmospheric Films, the other's on some great anime flicks I'd recommend to the anime fan, and the last's on film Criterion should release. We sure have simliar interests in film together, pal. ;)
