He showed great technical skill on Moon. I hear he intends to make a whole trilogy of sci-fi films set in the same universe.
I thought this film was going to be a terrible cliche genre film after seeing the trailer. When i saw the tomatometer was in the 50's I was not surprised. What did surprise me was what was the most common blurb from the positive critics as well as the negatives. The film is slow and subdued. Now to me that can be only a good thing in a genre usually loaded with loud and crass. I saw the film last night and I loved it
The use of focus and near silence make this film truly unique. I loved it. Also I cant not mention the 17 minute long shot. Michael Fassbender deserves credit for that almost as much as he does the weight loss involved with his role.
A true artist. Hunger was one of the most visually appealing (though also the most visually disturbing at times) films I've ever seen
I haven't seen 12 Monkeys but I saw this and loved it.
People expect dreams on film to be soulful and overtly surreal, but Nolan does away with that and give us what dreams are probably like if designed by architects (or film makers who think like him and Kubrick). Inception is an incredible film, it practically reinvents the concept of parallel editing and cross cutting using its sci-fi gimmick. Its a haunting film about ideas, ideas with deep emotional consequence.
Chris Nolan is logical and mechanical in his filmmaking, and that's exactly how I like it. Inception was amazing, it's truly the culmination of every film he's made prior, his whole body of work had been building to that film
This is what happens when we let fear consume us
Two faces meld into one
One of my favorite thrillers of all time. The portrayal of role reversal and sexuality is top notch.
Favorite film ever
he represents to me the best example of a modern Hitchcock
The best production design ever.
Totally puts you in the period of swinging london. The mystery is dense, and the pacing plays well to the eroticism.
"No time for the ol' in and out love, just here to read the meter"
truly suspenseful and well written as always with Woody Allen
Every time I watch this film it gets better. A masterpiece.
one of the funniest films ever made
its obviously cliche at this point to call this "the greatest film ever made," but damn its hard to think of it as anything else. While not a personal favorite of mine, I really do love this film. There isn't one bad scene or one dull moment, and on a technical and stylistic level it's still shines today.
It goes without saying that this film is overhyped as is Ledger's (R.I.P.) performance, but none the less this film is a landmark in Hollywood action films. I absolutely love everything about this movie, well I guess not everything, cause then I'd be saying its perfect, and its certainly no that, but pretty damn close for the genre.
My favorite modern thriller.
I dont think ill ever see a film that will ever even come close to connecting with me in the way this film did the first time i saw it and still does every time I watch it. My personal favorite.
This movie has some of my favorite quotes and characters in cinema
I loved how this film takes the style Scorsese used in Goodfellas, perfects it, and uses it to tell a much larger story here. Although not on the same level of excellence as its predecessor, I still think Casino is a great film.
I don't understand the recent backlash against this film. I loved it when I saw it in 2004, and I watch it often, and I certainly find it memorable. Perhaps I just have a whole lot of Howard Hughes inside me, so I've always been able to connect with this piece.
I dont find this film funny at all (okay I laughed at a few of the jokes), but I still thought it was very strong film by Judd Apatow who's come a long way as a director with an actual sense for direction (The 40-year-old Virgin was a multi camera setup mess in terms of direction). Adam Sandler continues to show he can actually act. Most importantly I always have respect for films and filmmakers who take risks and make something that is different and goes against the grain.
i like this film because the style is the substance.
My favorite director.
On the same level as the novel, no, but its still a well crafted and surprisingly entertaining film in spite of its length
