this is one weird little movie... it starts out as a low-budget version of films like Ringu, but it goes completely nuts in its second half. highly recommended... one of the most interesting japanese independent films i saw in the last few years. much better than the reigning film festival mode of digital tristesse / boring dead-pan humor.Favorite Films

Love the Mann canonization. Seeing Miami Vice beside those Diaz's just might get a few people to look at that film seriously.

yes, I have a top ten for every year list on listology... I'm happy if You like it... (the works of Lav Diaz weren't screened at Berlin Film Festival 2008 but later that year at cinema Arsenal. Unfortunetly the Festival isn't really interested anymore in that kind of cinema...)

Ich konnte Evolution of a Filipino Family glücklicherweise im Herbst 2008 in Berlin im Kino sehen, ebenso Death in the Land of the Encantos, Heremias und Melancholia. Ich hoffe sehr, dass diese Filme demnächst in vernünftigen DVD-Editionen erscheinen. Ich selber bin zur Zeit vor allem auf der Suche nach Batang Westside, einen sechs Stunden langen 16mm-Film, den er noch vor Evolution... gedreht hat...

Hallo, ich habe soeben Deine Top Liste gesehen, und bin erstaunt, vier Filme von Lav Diaz darunter zu finden. Wie ist es Dir möglich gewesen "Evolution of a Filipino Family" ausfindig zu machen? Ich bin schon seit einiger Zeit auf der Suche nach dem Film, vor etwa 1 1/2 hatte ich die Chance, "Death in the Land of Encantos" auf dem Buenos Aires Filmfest zu sehen, und der Film hat mich sehr beeindruckt. Es ist wirklich schade, dass diese Meisterwerke dem Allgemeinpublikum vorenthalten bleiben.
