My friends and I have been discussing the last remaining directors. The legendary Kurosawa is long gone and the few others left that still make great films are Oliver stone(assuming Wall Street 2 isn’t him selling out) and Paul Thomas Anderson… maybe Alex cox hopefully repo chick is okay. Martin Scorsese has become a Hollywood monster. Frances Ford Coppola has been reduced to making something here and there. Spielberg really has nothing. I really do not wanna watch any video game movies and transformer movies. At least there might be hope for Soderberg with Che. Ridley Scott is stuck with Crowe. I have nothing to look forward to in theaters.
The Coen brothers can make funny stuff but they should try more serious things. Clint Eastwood made Invictus which ruined the chance to make a movie with Nelson Mandela. Also Spike Lee has not done anything. Werner Herzog is caving in. Never was a huge fan of Woody Allen. I’m not saying there is nothing made independently I’m just pointing out I see nothing in theaters and this is the worst decade of Hollywood with remakes and sequels. Movies are trying to become video games it is ridiculous. It just seems impossible to even attempt to make money for an independent film unless you make a paranormal activity and give it to Spielberg.
look David Fincher made a remake of Forrest Gump. Tim burton made a remake called big fish and Forrest Gump was ripped off Being There. David Fincher is just a technical director looking to grab an academy award by selling out. zodiac was his best. I only like a couple of Lynch films. Scorsese does not care anymore. He made the departed which was average and he got best picture. Raging Bull deserved that oscar long ago. Now he just throws in movies with leonardo decrapio. Shutter Island looks just like some stupid horror movie not even close to cape fear. I consider Scorsese sold out because hes now truly part of Hollywood. A film is crafted by a skilled craftsman and hollywood is an assembly line of movies that look exactly the same with a couple of popular actors just to up the profit. also david fincher is making another sevenlike movie just for cash. I dont have fun watching michael bays trash explode. Or how thx1138 recently had tons of cgi added to it by george lucas who just is only about money. it is disgusting what he did to that film.

Look Mike spence it was a joke placing michael bay right next to Kurosawa on my profile.put things together. Those directors can never compare. Kurosawa is a legend who ranks higher than any director I have seen yet. Scorsese is making this shutter island for what purpose? Why is Roger Ebert giving every movie he sees 4 freaking stars? The aviator and departed cannot compare to any of his past films. he is falling downhill and making movies for money. a film is not made just for money thats called a movie. and mike about what you said earlier. I couldnt care less if this year had no masterpieces. But the fact that this entire decade has been falling along with the 90s is not good. we are looking at a horrible trend that hollywood is at its worst remaking and adding sequels to things that should not be touched such as blade runner 2, raging bull 2, high and low is being remade, seven samurai, and tom hanks in ikiru(ALL TRUE). This is ridiculous that all the decent directors are forced to bend over to hollywood. this is only getting worse and sadly I see no end in sight. This occurs in other artworks and they triumph but film is being shut up by that machine of the movie assembly line
The shining has to be at the top of the horror genre for me
But The Thing is definitely right next to it but in the violent kill em off one by one
Alien is similar in that perspective
For creepy scary moods
I would say the innocents and blair witch project herzogs nosferatu
Discuss the subgenres of the horror genre and how other films can hint at gothic and romantic literature. (romantic as in Romanticism)
salo, 300, anything made by bay, tim Burton, Bridge over River kwai, Gone with the wind, Casablanca, and recently the curious case of Benjamin button, and slum dog millionaire.
Tim Burton. I cannot stand those stand those kids that keep saying he is original all his crap is the same!! I think a vein exploded in my forehead ohh well.
How is Sam Peckinpah overrated?
I never said Stone was an incredible director. I just threw some movies together for favorite films I have not even looked at what I have there. I will be putting up a great movie list soon. Stone is just one of the last directors I have respect for. Movies are taking over art and film is not progressing. I have nothing to look forward to being made. I’m okay watching old Japanese cinema but I just don’t see aspiring filmmakers having a chance in the outside world. I spoke face to face with the Wachowski brothers and they really do not know half the films on this site. Andy Wachowski had no Criterions. Terry Gilliam is also falling downhill. Hopefully he can come through with The man who killed Don Quixote. But there really is no hope. I see independent film festivals falling apart along with the recession.
Usually you’re safe buying a kurosawa. But the worst one I ever bought was at the end of the 50% sale at barnes and nobles. I really heard so much about it and had no other way to see it so I picked this movie up and it scarred my mind. That movie was SALO
If anyone is interested in seeing Cul de sac I found it on Hulu at
http://www.hulu.com/search?query=Cul-De-Sac&st=0
Hey what about THE TRAGEDY OF MACBETH? Everyone seems to ignore that one. Anyway the ghost writer movie looked like Hollywood trash I’m sorry but I cant take stupid shooting at the end of a trailer. Too bad Polanski couldn’t keep his hands off that little girl now he’s never gonna make a come back after being raped in prison for twenty years. Oh well…
Harakiri was pretty depressing.
I can’t feel for grave of the fireflies. Something about cartoons and cgi just can’t get me to really care for them. They only time I ever care for a cgi character in pixar films.
I just don’t see the big deal about blu ray. Blu ray can make and movie from 2000 look crisper but why is there gonna be a seven samurai in blu ray? what’s next fritz lang’s metropolis? It just seems like a lot of money
If you cannot watch a movie without blu ray I find that pathetic. Next your gonna only watch 3d movies. guess how many good films are in blu ray? only a few. Im feel sorry for you tag simler that you are stuck watch sherlock holmes and avatar

Since I was born a deformed child I lived in the basement of my parent’s house. My family never came down to the basement except for the best three birthdays of my life. I love watching through the cracks in the floor boards to see my family go through everyday life. Every night my dad placed all the left overs on a plate along with some bread and placed it atop of the stairs. Every other couple of weeks he would talk to me but i could never go near the stairs because they were lit. Staying in the darkness my dad would try and educate me about the world outside. But then he got a new job but to replace him he gave an old black and white tv which I got working. Every week he would give me a new movie to watch when he came home. Eventually I got a computer that I put together and I get to enjoy the world just like everyone else. I just hope somewhere a girl can find love in me and look past my two noses, two eyes, and my footface. sadly, my dad grew too old to go and get movies so now I just watch movies online. My father had an excellent taste in films before the incident.
