There is no need to make ad hominem, cliched comments like "sensitive fanboy" and the like when attempting to substantiate your contention. I wish people could be more creative with their put-downs. Anyway, I just don't think it's a very imaginative, kindly thing to write on N.J.'s wall. He is a great director and deserves better than that. Some of your favourite auteurs e.g. De Palma, Kubrick, etc. are legendary and I love them too, plus Eastwood is one of my favourites, but I don't think N.J. is any less talented than these directors, they just have different styles. P.S. If you think "Eccentricities of a Blond Hair Girl" by Manoel de Oliveira if itself a "milestone" in cinema, be my guest. If this is a film from his "prime" I'd hate to see his worst. Eastwood is still going strong but Eastwood is Eastwood--he made the shift from actor to actor-director to director only--that's quite different from being essentially a career director like Normy. I tend to think acting all those years gave Clint an edge. Plus, N.J. gave Hal Ashby his big break--when so many others would've thought Ashby was just an eccentric hippy bum. If you don't fancy me knocking on your door, please be kind and don't knock on the wall set up for Normy's admirers with nondescript comments--you can't dish it out and then refuse to take it. P.S. Normy doesn't have "fanboys" the same way James Cameron does.
