The word you are looking for is "genios." It stems from "genious," a common mispelling of "genius."
What are your plans when this movie's all over? What are you going to be doing? "I shouldn't make movies anymore. I should go to a lunatic asylum right away."
You don't piss on hospitality + A double-decker bologna sandwich! = Timeless script, grade-A cinema..
I give this movie 2 1/2 stars and Isabelle Huppert 6.
So stylish and so tragic. Von Trier again presents an elaborate story with horrific endings for the well-intentioned. i love how he resists tidy conclusions or narrow takes on morality. that said, the emotional weight carried by this and other Von Trier pictures often borders on the unbearable. it takes a bit to recover from this one.
Split. Screen.
bamboozled and clockers, maybe?
Movie? Blah. Robin Williams? So good.
has anyone seen suburbia? it was a mid-90s movie that i'm 99% positive linklater directed, although i don't think he wrote it. i remember it as a very flawed film about suburban adolescence, but as with all linklater's best films, the character direction was outstanding.
it's difficult to pinpoint what exactly draws me to haneke. aesthetically, each of his works seem so bland, with the possible exclusion of the piano teacher. and yet this film is an excellent example of how he can take the stale look of a british sitcom and produce a layered, challenging, sophisticated, and well-paced film that i expect will stick with me for some time. great movie.
AGREED...Where is Mildred Pierce??
THE underrated lynch film.
Muppet Movie and Follow that Bird. Both excellent American Road Movies.
lars von trier is a master. whether this can be considered a masterpiece, however, certainly is up for debate. a "star rating" for a film like this is essentially arbitrary. it would be a treat to sit down with gainsbourg and dafoe and prod them about their opinions on the final product. very ambitious performances.
campy. genius. if anyone knows a term that combines these two thoughts, let me know.
