Hi, Naruse is somewhat unique in the sense that his worldview did not change much during his long career, and, consequently, his work did not shift wildly between various aesthetic and thematic registers—so ideally one could start from anywhere. But if you want to sample his best, or at least see films from what is generally considered to be his peak period, then I would suggest his mid-'50s efforts such as 'Floating Clouds', 'Flowing' and 'Sound of the Mountain'.
