"He’s the king of pseudo-intellectual nonsensical bullshit imo" this quote by Rumplesink pretty much summarizes the critical academics who curse most of the important Greek film-makers (females included of course) and it's one of the main reasons and prejudice attitudes that few to zero Greek movies are being transported above...if anyone thinks Pasolini and Godard are pseudo-intellectuals, he / she will rarely admire lesser-known masterpieces around this globe...
having seen plenty of films by Kurosawa and Hitchcock and Godard, three directors whose work is significantly larger in Quantity than many others (of course including Ozu,Bergman etc) i can honestly agree to what you're saying: Godard's latter period in my opinion is highly inferior to what he accomplished during his 60's and 70's experimentation,Hitchcock's numerous U.S. films aren't always worthy of praise (Topaz does suck for instance) and Kurosawa's early and final years are a mish-mash of ideas of incomplete nature and detection.......so i may acquire that same insight you have about Fassbinder until i've seen more (it's happening with my Herzog views though)
i haven't seen much Fassbinder but i can already assume you don't have him in high esteem ;) two for my part and his mini-series. i admit i had issues with his last film before his death but i think it was due to Davis' annoying sailor part, haha. anyways,i got past this detail because Genet wouldn't have minded much (and NOT because he was gay too, hahaha) Maria Braun was instant Hanna love but i think (and that goes to myself too) that even if i don't like some of his films (i also hate the latter Kurosawa period,so...he's made how many,20 films?Hitchcock has mad more, ahaha) his crowning achievement Berlin Alexanderplatz will always be there to compensate even the detractors (please don't tell me you hated it :O ) not so much for its book adaption but whoever sees the full 15 hours of this project, he won't feel so bad for wasting their breath in 8-9 Fassbinder feature films :P (bad joke, huh?)
now that you told me that...i'm not infuriated that you don't prefer it...i'm infuriated that you KNOW of Zagreb Film School more than Greek films :((( (infuriated = to the system, not you personally) goes to show how we suck at distribution,sigh.....
