“Olympia” is beautiful(but horrifying), triumph of the will is disgusting junk. oh, and btw: oskar roehler sucks. he just made a feature film, about “Jud Süss” which is the worst trash to come out of german mainstream cinema in years. “Jud Süss” is absolutely out of discussion.just to compare: you wouldn’t grace a film made by the ministry of apartheid as one of the most significant to come out of south africa right?

Being against HD and 3D is regressive. Cinema has always been about creating illusions, and new techniques help to perfect them. Sure, there are lots of awful 3D movies right now, but in the hands of the right director it can be a powerful tool. It’s the next step for film-making, like adding colour 70 years ago.
So watching movies on badly copied tapes would make us less lonely? I’m not exactly an optimist who believes in technology, I just can’t see what’s wrong with higher picture quality. 2nd: 99% percent of the people wouldn’t watch Last Year in Marienbad anyway, because they’re idiots. Get over it.
I think that in order to be original, a piece of art needs to surprise you. Each new piece of art should add something to the world of ideas that hadn’t been thought of before. Since film is an audio-visual medium, it should let you see and hear things that are completely unknown to you.
