Pathetic, you are jealous of Pitt? Pitt is perfect, great performance
Some of the best b/w cinematography I've ever seen.
R.I.P.
Reality is far worse. Just watch an episode of 'Doomsday Preppers', it's a phenomenom of mass psychosis(especially when prepping intersects with conspiracy theories).
Where are you gonna look for a magician? At Magic Castle of course, it's the bar where they all hang out. No-brainer!
Great adaptation, I think my problem lies with the novel it's based on. I read it some years ago and didn't like it, as I just now remembered. It does capture the horrors of war, but only insofar as they happen to Finnish soldiers. Killing Russians is made to seem like a fun pastime. Also, the film itself seems a bit like it's modeled after Peckinpah's Cross Of Iron(honest soldiers/vain officers etc.).
Obviously David Wnendt did little to no research. This is what German Neo-Nazis looked like 20 years ago. The so-called "Autonomous Nationalists" of today are probably peeing their pants from laughing at this clichéd attempt to portray their scene.
I wish someone would make Huysmans' novel of the same name into a movie.
That has to be the most retarded premise for a movie since "Cowboys vs. Aliens".
"I do not believe in wonders. I have seen too many of them"
The burning beach has to be seen to be believed.
Probably the best science-fiction movie made by a German director next to Fassbinder's "World On A Wire".
I love the mini genre of face transplantation horror(as in: Eyes Without A Face or The Face Of Another). I like the aesthetics Almodovar uses here, but that's about it. The characters remain uncompelling, even if Banderas' perfomance is astonishing(by his standards).
The soundtrack is great. How can you not love Korean Acid House with weird vocals?
Cimino's magnum opus.
I've never liked Björk, but this is just too much. If she can get stuff like Biophilia greenlighted by a major label (which means a lot of artistic control), why would she let her music be used for this crap?
The last sentence summarizes the whole film: "Lauter garstige Menschen" (a lot of nasty people). While portraying Austro-Teutonic suburban ugliness quite precisely, Seidl's effort feels strangely bloodless. It lacks the visciousness and vigor artists like Thomas Bernhard or Franz Novotny display in their works.
One of the best mockumentaries I've seen so far.
Seigner/Polanski are even worse than Marceau/Zulawski. The corny script doesn't exactly help.
Actually they become hooked on heroin, the synopsis should be corrected.
I love how Eloy De La Iglesia snuck a gay sub-plot in there bypassing fascist censorship and selling the whole thing as a horror movie. During a time when Franco was still in power. That's ace.
I liked the nature bits, they're like watching discovery channel when you're stoned. Unfortunately Malick once again chose a horrible male lead(as with Gere and Farell). Only Hunter McCracken saves the second half of the movie from sinking into the pits of irrelevance.
childhood favourite!
beautiful imagery and a few great scenes, too bad the script seemed underdeveloped.
What people always tend to forget is that Tibetans had yet been enslaved before the chinese invasion - by a powerful and brutal theocratic aristocracy led by a god king(the dalai lama) who built golden palaces while his subjects were starving. How does that make someone the earthly incarnation of peace and harmony? Buddhism sucks.
this is bullcrap! enslaved is not true! it was a theocratic system but there were no slaves and that system couldnt be that harsh! the myth of how china "liberated" tibetans can be debunked by the 17 point agreement for the peaceful liberation of tibet, sealed in Beijing on 23 May 1951, where point # 4 clearly states: "The central authorities will not alter the existing political system in Tibet. The central authorities also will not alter the established status, functions and powers of the Dalai Lama. Officials of various ranks shall hold office as usual." does the liberation and slave lie makes sense if you dont alter the slave system and leave all the powers to the so called slave master?? of course not! another lie about tibet, made in china... FREE TIBET!
But you will acknowledge there were harsh famines, right? And that the ruling monks didn't exactly share their wealth with the hoi polloi? I'm not saying the Chinese system isn't total crap, but romanticizing the feudal rule of past centuries just isn't that smart. It's like left-wingers standing up for Irish catholics(that are anything but progressive).
it's always bad when directors give parts to their lovers(see zulwaski and sophie marceau), but maria luisa garcias total lack of any palpable talent is just shocking.

the sad story of a great artist turned corporate whore.
is there anything about their approach that doesn't scream "traditionally educated middle class intellectual"? "tv is evil", come on. a lot of nazi officers read homer and vergil in school and we all know the results.
Kinda weak on the filmmaking side, but the sheer variety and scope are astonishing. Plus there are some great writers, like Revs the angry steelworker.
