"Uncertain Worlds" shows a nice selection of lesser-known gems, David. Some of them are among my favorites, too. My congrats and, thanks for following back! :)
My pleasure! Great to meet a like-minded explorer of uncertain worlds....... I'm picking out some interesting looking films from your favourites too, so thanks...
I should spend more time thinking about films and adding to this list but my time is spent trying to write visual fiction. I was a non-fiction writer and journalist for many years and now I am wrestling with the reasons why I am writing fiction and struggling with the material. So I look at films for the secret heart of the story, as Pamuk puts it, and find so very few that do. Roy Andersson's You the Living from Goethe is probably one of the closest in that it is a very deliberate production, but it is very difficult to achieve and even when that is done most peope don't get it. So my film list is not complete and probably not really representative if that is the way to put it of the ghosts that I want to find. Don't know if that makes sense at all. R
Yes, I think I understand what you mean. The real message would be that elusive ghost that escapes our first look, the reality that lurks inside that which is depicted. In that case cinema becomes closer to poetry (as a text) than to drama or documentary, and certainly that's what I look for in some films: the incendiary value of what is not said or shown, and the scars it leaves on our experience with "building" concepts. Mine may seem a rather simplistic view, but I have some difficulty in expressing myself in better terms, since English is not my native language. Thanks for your insight, Robert; your list is of great interest to practitioners of literature, like myself.
You express yourself well. I'll come back to this when I have have a break from my present work. Do you write and if so what do you write?
Thank you, Robert. Well, I write poetry and short fiction (though I've only been published a couple of times in local magazines), and am currently doing my attempts in a longer work (a so-called novel), I make my living as a freelance writer (advertising). Nothing very interesting so far.
Ahhh...!!! But I´m so shy, really! And everybody already made such nice suggestions. :))) (However, I would add a couple of them...)
Haha, don't be shy! :) Just post 10 favorite short films. Btw, Jose Val del Omar's work looks great!
Sure! :) He is considered an "eccentric" among Spanish filmmakers: That´s the thing with him: a delirious, always experimental, search for a new poetic language. He regarded cinema as a multisensorial creation. Ah! Regarding the other favorite shorts... Hmmm... Is it OK if I include some animations?
Awesome. I'll eventually see his films. :) I think so, yes. Many have included Street of Crocodiles :D
Thank youI (Blush) I liked your selection, too (and yes, "Dim" is something unique). Please try to find Charles Dekeukeleire´s short films! :)
