Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Crash (Paul Haggis), Magnolia – all of which I think could have been better if their were trimmed down to a single plot line and if they weren’t so heavy handed in their message. The worst kind of film is not a bad one, but one that disappoints because it goes beyond what it is supposed to do for NO reason.
Not my favorite film by a long stretch but Planet Terror was nowhere near as bad as people said it was. In the UK it didn’t even get a cinema release but it was by far the better of the two ‘Grindhouse’ features. Death Proof was gash.
I too am a fan of some of De Palma’s work. The average quality of his work, however, is quite poor Especially in the past 20 years. Also, he has never been as exciting or as original as his peers.

The Golden Compass…the Philip Pullman His Dark Materials Trilogy had so much more potential than the mess Chris Weitz produced…real disappointment.
