well no duh man
I appreciate the elaborate stage sets and story telling. Main lead played by Jake Gyllenhaal lacked conviction despite Ben Kingsley's presence. It could have been an epic of proportions if there were less hocky elements such as the dagger and the sands of time.
Good blend of friction and fact.
Many things are unknown in the future. But the human condition and behaviour will remain consant.
Very convincing but tedium and boring.
The Idiot -Hero gets embraced by the people suing him. Very convincing plot line. Not. Please no more child rearing campaigns. This is counter productive.
Okay. Boring and tame comparing 12 days of Salo.
i know exactly what you mean, I said "well no duh" because I agree with you, Sleeping Beauty is unarguably tame if compared to Salo, Sleeping Beauty has got absolutely nothing on Salo. The themes are similar, even some scenes remind me too much of Salo, but the story is daft and shallow and is completely useless unlike Salo which has a story.
Tragic. The problem is probably bigger than what the film is alluding to. Abandoned old age parents. Sad but what can you do?
Many subplots and character developments were lost in translation. General idea was the tug of war between two bastards - the father and son.
Lame. Lousy production. Absolutely lost in the storytelling. Message. What message. Did I mention Lame?
Another of the pro-children movies in the film festivals. In the receipe; a trouble child, and an adoptive mother capable of unconditional love. Done right can turn any hardened delinquent into a sweet boy. Voila happy mother and child relationship. Yeah right.
Fact or fiction. Sounds convincing. But a conspiracy theory. Accusation. Allegation. Claim. Without credible evidence. Case dismissed.
Good acting by some of the Italian cinema's heavy weights. Otherwise a good film, the film was however lost in the techno babble of the bankruptcy.
The marvel of the film was lost as I exited the theatre, doctors were handing out pamplets of these clinics.
Action meets religion and philosophy. One is punished for one's bad deeds. Ironically, goes opposite to "no good deed goes unpunished."
Display of human cruelty driven by life's ambition and jealousy.
Simple film. Patriarch gets murdered by maid/mistress. Acting is fine. Motives are believeable. Details are good touches. "Shit must taste good. Millions of flies can't be wrong.", The daughter describing her thoughts on childbirth.
A film with virtually no dialogue. Burden of the film's success rested on the main character's facial expressions. Hardship and sadness. Loss and sorrow. Answer to life. Don't think, just do- in this case just reproduce. (Many of the sub-culture hidden baby making messages in films lately. Not sure I am sold on it though.)
Profound in the Nihilist sense. Existence is pointless. Deeply depressing. A film about four luckless characters coming together but unable to muster any kind of hope or courage to live life unmaterialistically. Chooses suicide as escape.
Too much dialogue. The movied really annoyed me. As it is I am annoyed by self-obsessive people who thinks they know best. I couldn't believe I spent 2 hours watching this boring annoying film. Point taken. We are all obessessed with our own ego and thoughts.
A modern silent film. Very delightful. One almost need to question the usefulness of sound.
Acting about acting. Depths of the mind is a forest or an abyss where one can easily be lost. Hence the saying, ignorance is bliss.
This is a testimony of Pedro Almodovar becoming a master film maker in the Hollywood sense. 90% there. The film is lavish. Acting flawless. The characters believable. Editing almost there. Plot is somewhat suspenseful. Minus the homoerotic excessiveness. It is almost a good generic Hollywood film. Nevertheless very enjoyable to watch.
Dignity and compassion. Film is weak. Poltical/social/philosophical fundamentals are weak. The idea an impoverished man could help someone even less fortunate is profound and powerful. Such is the idea of compassion...even though sadly may only exist on film....
Freida Pinto. Her beauty alone is enough, we don't need to hear her speak. Naomi Watts is a shear acting tour de force. She delivered some of the best lines of Woody Allen's movies. Josh Brolin and Anthony Hopkins play the modern males - the degenerates. Wow, men are really losing the battle of the sexes, according to Woody Allen.
Same Woody Allen, but none of his stutter or crazy self obsessive hangups. Or perhaps, Owen Wilson had enough balls to not act like Woody Allen as all other failed actors have done to immitate the idiosyncrasies of Allen in his past films. Light comedy with a simple message - the grass is greener on the other side. Yeah....
I don't know in what god's name drove me to watch this film...Some interesting special effects, but outlandish costumes and unneccessary martial arts made this film difficult to watch. Who could believe Zeus to be so young and to fight with his bare feet or hands, instead of throwing thunder bolts.
Michelle Williams has Marilyn down, at least what the remnants of history can tell us. But she has none the sparkle or glamour as the original. Eddie Redmayne who plays the main cast -Collin Clark is disappointingly unconvincing. But a story is a story. It would have worked as a tribute if one has never seen MM or any of her films. Perhaps one can trully find the charm of MM after watching this film.
Imagination aside, this is not a bad film. I am not really convinced of the dance sequences. But then again I know nothing of ballet. Interesting foray into a foreign subject matter-classic ballet. Aronofsky thinks this is a mirror of the Wrestler. Well, I can see the similarities.
The film is largely convincing. The possibilities of events are plausible.as they are precedented. The film itself is an example of the trespass and violation of the lives under power. Just a note: Is all consuming power real power? To excercise an idea of others is to render servitude to another. To be trully powerful is to exercise original thoughts and actions. Otherwise absolute power is artificial.
Interesting story. Not very realistic. Naive. Subplots are not worked out clearly. Maybe it is the suggestiveness that fails it for me. Not direct enough. A chick flick. Sorry ladies, I don't mean it in a bad way. Cleo 5-7. Feminine madness?
