When I say "A Perfect Film", What One Film Pops Into Your Head First? over 3 years ago

Hmm… It’s hard to choose one, buy I think one change to this film would have ruined it, so it must be perfect as it is. Léolo (Jean-Claude Lauzon)

Good Bad Films over 3 years ago

I’m a bit of a bad move fanatic so bear with me…
Dolemite
Meet the Feebles
Little Monsters (actually a brilliant and creative take on adolescence and sexuality)
Anything by John Waters
Master Killer 2
Garbage Pail Kids The Movie
Puppet Master
Gremlins
Scanners

I could do this for hours!

Is Travis a hero or a villain? over 3 years ago

I think Travis is a man driven mad by the repression of aggression in society. He is extremely sexually frustrated and turns this into violence. In the end he end up enacting a cowboys and indians style shootout (the mohawk!!!) and is completely psychopathic, and what is worse is that society adores him for it.

Rate The Last Film You Watched over 3 years ago

Well the last movie I watched was unfortunately Tropic Thunder 2 out of 5
The last film I watched was Fat Girl I give it a 85/100
the scales are different because one is a piece of art and the other is a mass produced crap comedy

CLASSIC FILM NOIR over 3 years ago

Strangers on a Train is my favorite, however it is probably not the darkest of Noir but it is brilliant, and very daring for the time

12-year old asking... over 3 years ago

Antonioni seems to be a point of debate, I was luckily introduced with a series of three films that he created in rapid succesion that are meant to be strongly integrated thematically. If you want to get a really good feel for him I would suggest watching them chronologically. I absolutely loved this films,
Eclisse, L’ (1962)
Notte, La (1961)
Avventura, L’ (1960)

SHOULD THE CRITERION COLLECTION INCLUDE TELEVISION SHOWS? over 3 years ago

I think they could release more old serials, but I really don’t like the idea of tv shows here. Made for tv movies can be okay, but tv shows seem wrong.

I would like to second the recommendation of John Waters, one of the true greats of trash cinema

Help make The Auteurs totally awesome over 3 years ago

I would love a recommendation engine of some sort to help discover movies based on prior likes and disliked. Perhaps the ability to tag movies with a set of keywords to help in the recommendation as well. Also the ability to find other users with similar tastes.

Help make The Auteurs totally awesome over 3 years ago

The ability to import/export ratings to and from Netflix would be useful. Having to rate a movie twice seems sill, especially when the two sites use the same metric.

We all know about Criterion, The Auteurs, Netflix and IMDB as great sources of film information online, but what about other sites?
What sites do you frequent to find new media and ideas?

Contemporary Film Noir over 3 years ago

I was just going to mention Brick, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is slowly becoming one of my favorite young actors. This film is a great nod to classic noir. While it is definitely designed more as an homage it is still brilliantly done. Also try The Man Who Wasn’t There by the Coens.

The Films of John Hughes over 3 years ago

Among his directorial works are:
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)
Weird Science (1985)
The Breakfast Club (1985)
Sixteen Candles (1984)

He has also many famous works where he was only the writer, but these are some of his bigger directorial works. I would like to hear some opinions about his work.

David Cronenberg's Dead Ringers about 3 years ago

I just watched this film again today and absolutely loved it more than ever. The play on split personalities and codependency along with the technosexual elements are Classic Cronenberg.

Best Film About Film? about 3 years ago

I just got on here to mention Irma Vep which I just watched for the first time tonight. If you haven’t seen the Serial it is based on you really should see that before hand as there are allusions to those characters and story in the filmthat really make it sing. The directors names are both aliases of head Vampires, and the costume artist is really a representation of the Paris Underground that the evil Producers in the film try to crush out of the art. Also, I wasn’t the one to catch this, but it was pointed out to me that the scene with the nude lady having a fight on the phone was a reference to 8 1/2 as well. Really a great film!
