This film demands more recognition. It is a harrowing and unforgettable journey into the human soul that will leave you heartbroken and astonished. This is a truly remarkable work of art.
This film is a prime example of Bunuel's genius and why he is one of the greatest directors who ever lived. It is like a Kafkaesque nightmare but with Bunuel's wicked sense of humor and disdain for the bourgeoisie and religion. You can analyze the film all you want, but like the guests you'll end up bewildered and unable to comprehend what has happened. Just sit back and enjoy Mr. Bunuel's Theatre of the Absurd.
This is a subtle, and in its own way, a perfect film that hauntingly conveys its themes of isolation, repression, and missed opportunities through the beauty of cinema. It also features as good a musical score as I’ve ever heard. One of the truly great films of the new millennium that will be remembered for a very long time.
One of the most important films ever made. Nothing else I've ever seen better illustrates the no-win situation of occupying another nation and that history is on the side of the insurgency. The film is obviously as relevant now as ever, and should be required viewing for everybody.
Greatest Director Ever. 'Nuff said.
He is truly one of the great directors and has been criminally underrated.
One of the greatest of all film noirs and the apex of the heist film. It features the greatest bank robbery ever put on film, as well as one of the darkest endings ever. There are not enough superlatives to use when talking about this masterpiece. All I will say is do yourself a favor and watch this movie now!
One of the most haunting films that I have ever seen. An underrated masterpiece that deserves greater recognition.
Perhaps my favorite Bunuel. Blasphemous, perverse, and hilarious. Just the way I like it.
One of Altman's best. Shelly Duvall is remarkable. The scenes of Millie interacting with her "friends" are as poignant as anything Altman ever did. It is far from perfect, but this is truly a bizarre and underrated gem of a film.
