Arnaud: Filmography

Anyone who dosent like this film simply felt stupid not understanding the subject matter. This IS intellectualism upon layers and layers of content. Maybe the film is less attractive to non-Canadian

fantastic cinematography and score. Good character study. Fantastic pacing. The downside is that it does not contain many layers, the plot is really straightforward and basic, but still its well done.

Diabolique

You have know idea how the ending is chilling. You just have no idea. You have to see this movie just for the end.

Diabolique

Good plot. Aston Kutcher cant really act but whatever... It grew on me for some reassons. Its in my «guilty pleasures» list.

Tropic Thunder

Surprisingly engaging. A damn stupid comedy film, but a good one at that. Good references here and there (Apocalypse Now) Downey and Cruise are fantastic (in terms of comedy)

The Big Lebowski

Its hard for me to express in word what i specifically think about this film. Never did a film made me feel so deeply empty (a trademark from the Coen brothers) Nothing is engaging in this film and never is a plot point made interesting. Some people hail it for its humor, but let me tell you that sarcasm and cynism aint a winner for me. Even the premice is completely drown out of any interest: A man whose mistaken with another man whom has the same name. .............Wow, sounds... shocking, isnt? Do you a favour, never watch this film in your entire life.

The Big Lebowski

Empty film. Just like every other Coen brothers (Fargo and especially the Big Lebowski, for exemple) you wont feel anything after watching this. Its neither bad or excellent. Neither engaging or boring. This film has absolutely no point, no conclusion, no nothing. Its sole merit is Anton «Terminator» Chigurgh whom is a terrific character in a completely forgettable film. Definitely an Oscar robber. There Will Be Blood was the best film of its year by far.

City of God

Beautiful piece of history inside the Cidade de Deus. A film made with heart. Completely true and unpretentious. Fantastic editing serves as a metaphor for the many souvenirs of the protagonist (whom is breaking the fourth wall and adressing directly to the viewer. Love, violence, friendship, drugs, drugs, and drugs again. A HUMAN gangster film. Beautiful testament of foreign cinema.

Dawn of the Dead

More than meets the eye. The US theatrical cut serves as a fantastic drama between 4 friends living in a totally unrealistic situation. Their situation ties in with the zombies, horror, comedy & overall feel of the 70s. The highlight is the atmosphere. The film knows where its going and it does not fall into failure. No one can deny the presence of abusive gore present from the B movie era. Though in this film, it looks pretty much in place and it adds to the atmosphere. This film is uncrappy and crappy at the same time, but confortably on the good side. Important note: There is some thoughts suggesting that Romero movies (including this one) contains many social crictism undertones, this is far from being true. The social crictism are quite superficial and it feels as if Romero is not sure of its message. At least the intentions are there. I love this film

Blade Runner

A masterpiece of cinematography, science-fiction, soundtrack and story telling. Human undertones are not superficial, they are completely pertinant with the story and they tie in to perfection. Blade Runner could not have been any better.

Bottle Rocket

An interesting buddy movie that you might want to watch while relaxing in front of. Immensely interesting characters, excellent atmosphere, good soundtrack and imaginative cinematography (comparable with Paul Thomas Anderson). The camera movement are frantic and novative. An interesting watch. My complaint is that the character of Mr. Henry dont tie well with the plot and that the second half of the movie dosent bring much. The characters seem to be pretty much unchanged after the events occuring in the story.

Band of Outsiders

Boring semi-exploration «human drama» during a forgettable french new wave period. You can easily skip this movie.

Pulp Fiction

Extremely overrated. Not funny at all. Im not the kind of disturbed person who finds that violence is funny. Useless use of the non-linear story editing Annoying numbers of f-bombs Cliche stories Unengaging Unepic Completely useless film

Kill Bill: Vol. 2

The fight scene between Elle Driver and The Bride is phenomenal. Brutal and gritty. It reminds me of the fight between Morpheus and the Agent Smith in the Matrix (which im absolutely sure is volutary)
