Well said.
What a trip. I just watched this and Pearls of the Deep, which I felt was dominated by Vera Chytilova's segment. Can anyone tell me where I can find more of her films with English subtitles?
Pretentious? Yes. Is the final shot unnecessary? Probably. Is it admirable and maybe even inspiring to see a filmmaker run with such a wild idea and create an entire film that is wholly true to that idea? Absolutely.
The strange collision of documentary/art film, satire/consumerism, mechanism/abstraction make this such a good time.
Would be wonderful to watch as a double feature with Sunset Blvd.
Stanwyck and Alton. At the same time. 'Nuff said.
Gonna take me a while to get my head around this one.
A drum solo as a weapon of torture. And washed down with 40% alcohol hair tonic.
I was blown away by Barbara Stanwyck. Such a complex, layered western by Mann. But I can't help but attribute a great deal of the complexity to Stanwyck's performance. Mesmerizing. Would be a great double bill with Forty Guns by Samuel Fuller.
Wow. I drew quick connections to two of my favorite films: Wild Strawberries and Alice in the Cities, yet it felt so wholly original at the same time. And I don't throw those titles around lightly.
Truly EPIC.
Absolutely incredible.
Just bought tickets to see this at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis on April 23. It will supposedly be followed by a discussion with Reichardt and Haynes. I have seen one discussion with Reichardt before and cannot wait for this incredible opportunity to see these two great filmmakers together. So excited.
If 23rd Psalm Branch was included on this site it would most certainly be added to my favorites list. Possibly the most thought-provoking film I have ever seen.
No Iguana? No Ride in the Whirlwind? Come on now. Hellman is a true original.
Possibly the finest contemporary American filmmaker. (3)
What a ride. 5 hours of futuristic road movie glory. Wenders presents such an imaginative vision of the future in which we become even more obsessed with recorded images. Cameras that capture video for the blind to see and people who become addicted to recording and viewing their own dreams. Crazy stuff. And one of Max von Sydow's underrated performances. He's a masterful actor. This is no exception.
can anyone tell me any ideas about how i could get my hands on this film? i can't find it anywhere.
Where is The Getaway? I love that film.
"Sometimes I like it in films when people just sit there, not saying anything. " This movie is SO COOL.
QUINTET.
Velvet Goldmine and Dottie Gets Spanked.
Toads. Crusading.
I'm from Minnesota. It seems that things have continued to spiral, and it's too bad I have so much trouble sharing the optimism of the lawyer at the end of the film. A very relevant story today. Great, important, and personal documentary filmmaking.
