As a studying musician, I appreciate Portabella's ability to celebrate JS Bach's influence on society. Bach was, without a doubt, a brilliant performer and prestigious composer who had an inimitable impact on the history of musical composition.

Stage Fright

Dietrich is hilarious. Loved the layered behind-closed-curtain/on-stage motives... typical Hitchcock style... he always ends well!

The Word

Profound, austere film. I can certainly see how it was a large influence in Tarkovsky's work. Beautifully photographed, and employed a perfect balance of characters and foils.

Repulsion

Intense psychological thrill from Polanski! Excellent attention to detail and continuity. The photography and production design is outstanding... I was especially unsettled by the enlarging of the rooms of the apartment, as we are thrown into Carol's fractured mind... very surrealistic.

Fantastic performances, especially from Hall!! Very well written and executed... the character development and individual relationships are outstanding!

Superb film from Bergman. Beautiful use of setting, photography and music, and excellent performances. I loved the minimal size of the cast, resulting with the feel of a play. Profound emotion and philosophy in this film... looking forward to seeing the rest of the trilogy!

Through a Glass Darkly

This story is told very well by Hitchcock. Much suspense, comedy, and dramatic irony fueling the narrative. Great photography and use of fog!

The Lady Vanishes

Excellent film!! Complete with eccentric characters, head-scratching suspense and some of Hitchcock's funniest comedy. Having the story set on the train gave the film a wonderful sense of perpetual motion and continuity.

Suspiria

Completely agree with the below comment... the narrative was fragmented and confusing, but this actually may add to the overall mood of the film. Absolutely stunning visuals, candy colors, nightmarish sets, and haunting music. Loved the shouts of "WITCH!" and the "unexplained" ghostly forms in some shots.

Splice

The beginning was nothing special and a bit too safe, but the film developed into something quite unabashed, innovative and adventurous! It is interesting to pay attention to gender parallels and role reversals (both obvious and subtle) between Clive, Elsa, their creations, and even Barlow and Chorot.
