I can’t say for certain if I’ve watched all these over 10 times but it’s close… not all are necessarily my favorite movies, but play a lot on TV and I find it necessary for me to stop and watch them every time!
In no particular order:
Jurassic Park
Pirates of the Caribbean
Gone with the Wind
Road To Morocco (and a good deal of other Bob Hope movies)
Once Upon A Time In Mexico
Wizard of Oz
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Indiana Jones (the originals!)
Alien
Silence of the Lambs
Batman Begins (YES, that’s right, I don’t like it and I’m not afraid to say it)
Harry Potter Series (I’ve only tried to watch the first one)
Lord of the Rings Trilogy (I tried, I really did, but it’s just too damn slow)
Close Encounters (uh, dull…)
Watchman – it seemed to start off promising and just kept unraveling until I learned to loath it.
G.I. Joe – considering I had little expectation for this to begin with and it let me down in disinterest and boredom… well, that doesn’t bode well.
Was not impressed with Terminator Salvation or Transformers 2 either, but the other two above definitely take the cake.
Ha! Catching shit on the thread about just that. Love it! Proves my point, too.
BTW, I love reading, but that sort of fantasy type thing just isn’t my cup of tea. It’s not a lack of patience as much as a disinterest for that genre in general.
1. Knowing… was really horrible. I suspected it probably was, and it didn’t disappoint. Couldn’t even finish it.
2. G.I. Joe … haven’t been so bored during an action flick since Ecks vs. Sever. cringe
3. Watchmen … I know some will disagree but for me this was the most disappointing movie that I went to in the theater. The others I thankfully caught on Netflix instead. It started off OK, but began to derail fairly quickly for me.
oops, double posted. But I will take the opportunity to say Underworld: Rise of the Lycans was terrible as well. Not that the first Underworld was a masterpeice but… wow.

There is a very noticable difference when it comes to Blu-Ray and DVD, in both picture quality and sound. The trick with blu-ray is knowing when to spend the money on a blu-ray disc, and when to just buy it on regular DVD. It is all about the movie you want; anything that has a focus on striking color or visuals, or is heavy on CG and FX is worth getting on blu-ray (IMO). The rest you are best sticking to DVD until the price comes down on blu-ray discs… which thankfully is already happening. Blu-ray isn’t likely to completely replace DVDs anytime soon. Eventually, maybe, but there are too many older TV and movie titles unavailable on blu-ray and too much money invested by consumers on DVDs.
By the by, Gone w/ the Wind looks stunning on blu-ray. It is completely remastered, and the colors and clarity are amazing. :)
Yeah, love my netflix instant to my Xbox as well. So awesome! I really like it for TV series too, so I don’t have to get one flippin’ disc in the mail at a time.
A well thrown DVD does make a good weapon for decapitation in a pinch.
WHAT?! That is the most ridiculous crap I’ve ever heard. If you get that immersed in a film long after it is done, there may be a certain specialist you need to see….
“But I can understand why it made people depressed. The movie was so beautiful and it showed something we don’t have here on Earth.”
May I suggest investing in a multi-region DVD player like this when you can:
http://www.amazon.com/Philips-DVP5990-Region-Player-upscaling/dp/B0016IYKNI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1263838642&sr=1-1
There are others of course, but they auto-convert PAL to NTSC for us US folk and aren’t bad in price either. Used to have one made by Panasonic and loved it… will have to get another one soon!
“but yes, once drafted the script should be checked for grammar, spelling etc”
For sure. No self-respecting person is going to sit down and read through one-hundred + pages of script that looks like it was written by a drunk five year old. Despite the fact that another editor will no doubt go through the work to assure a good polish or to revise it), a script should be written in a professional manner to begin with or they won’t even finish a first read-through.
Bad grammar and spelling detract from the story you tell, and often if these two things are bad you will have trouble getting a great idea across anyhow, even if you have one. Sometimes the most basic of stories or plots becomes a gem simply because of the way a writer fleshes out the characters, dialogue and/or setting.
Solid acting perfomances from the leads and a talented director make this film what it is. The non-linear format of the film does not leave you feeling lost, which could have easily been the case with a less skilled director. The plot is good, but the biggest reason for the high ratings is the amount of emotions I feel while watching the film. There are certain parts which are quite painful to watch, and despite knowing the two leads will inevitably destroy themselves you can’t help but watch. A point and a half down for certain elements of the ending, but not big enough issues to truly hurt the film as a whole. Overall, I found it very enjoyable!
This one just didn’t come together, even for a Hollywood “action” movie. The first part of the movie was incredibly awkward, the middle barely found a pace, and the end was cliche. Overall, for two big actors like Travolta and Washington, this was an lack-luster and disappointing endeavor!

That’s all I remember about the first LOTR too… them walking through the forest… and walking through the forest some more.
Although not my favorite genre, there are some fantasy films I can get into, but LOTR was too long winded for me.

Films you love but most people hate. over 2 years ago
First and foremost:
The Fountain – I loved it… beautiful film. I am surprised at how much animosity it gets!
Couple others off the top of my head…
Once Upon A Time In Mexico – fun flick, pure and simple.
Unbreakable – This really drew me in, but it seems like a lot of people didn’t like it.
